Add comprehensive safety measures for drivers, pedestrians and cyclists in Pacific Beach

The Issue

Pacific Beach is a community that thrives on outdoor living. Our streets are filled with pedestrians, cyclists, families, and visitors enjoying everything our neighborhood has to offer. But recent tragedies have made it clear that our streets are not as safe as they should be.

In just the past two months, Pacific Beach has lost three beloved community members in vehicular accidents involving pedestrians and cyclists. These devastating incidents have involved impaired driving, distracted driving, excessive speeding, and poor visibility on our roads.

These losses cannot be ignored.

Our streets must become safe for everyone who uses them. We are calling on the City of San Diego to take immediate action by implementing the following safety improvements:

• Protected bike lanes to create safe, dedicated space for cyclists
• Improved street lighting to increase nighttime visibility for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians
• Converting dangerous two-way stop intersections into four-way stops for clearer traffic control
• Speed reduction measures such as speed bumps, roundabouts, and/or rumble strips
• Installation of high-resolution traffic cameras to discourage reckless driving and ensure accountability should there be a hit-and-run

Pacific Beach and our surrounding coastal neighborhoods deserve streets where safety comes first. These practical improvements can help prevent future tragedies and protect the people who live, work, and visit here every day.

By signing this petition, you are asking local leaders to prioritize these life-saving changes and take immediate action to improve safety in Pacific Beach.

Join us in advocating for safer streets and a stronger community.
