The issue

I am a dedicated disability support worker who regularly takes participants to the Gurri Wanyarra Wellbeing Centre in Kangaroo Flat, VIC, Australia, for essential hydrotherapy sessions. These sessions play a crucial role in their physical and mental well-being. Unfortunately, the current facilities are inadequate, causing significant delays and distress for those in need.

At present, the centre has only one disabled bathroom equipped with a working hoist. The high demand for this facility leads to long waiting times, and participants are often left with no choice but to miss their vital hydrotherapy or sit in discomfort in the cold while they wait. This situation is not only inconvenient but also unfair to individuals who rely on these services for their health and quality of life.

Furthermore, there is a shortage of pool wheelchairs, and the ones available are frequently broken, posing a safety risk and further limiting accessibility. All individuals deserve the right to participate in recreational activities with dignity and safety, particularly those who benefit greatly from hydrotherapy.

This petition calls on the Kangaroo Flat Council to take action. We need a second disabled bathroom at the Gurri Wanyarra Wellbeing Centre, fully equipped with a working hoist, and additional, well-maintained pool wheelchairs to ensure safety and accessibility for all users.

Increasing and improving these facilities will not only enhance the participants' experience but also uphold their right to equal access to community amenities. Please sign this petition to urge the council to address these pressing needs at the Gurri Wanyarra Wellbeing Centre.
