FOREST HILL NEEDS BETTER TRANSPORT LINKS

*The key to the Forest Hill Express Bus route is that it's fast and efficient with limited stops*.

*There is a significant lack of bus route between the south east and  south west corridor*

There is a significant overloading onto the Windrush and London Bridge lines at Forest Hill station

There is ongoing traffic build up on the A205 trying to get out of Forest Hill towards Dulwich

Honor Oak Park ( a smaller catchment area) has express and efficient bus routes at p4 and p12 to Peckham and Brixton + additional stations nearby . Forest Hill lacks any efficient bus route service and should have the same supplied as Honor Oak. To access the bus's supplied to Honor Oak, you will  need to walk up a steep hill for 20 minutes to get to the Horniman museum to access these routes from Forest Hill (this takes out anyone who is less able/elderly/disabled).

Suggestion:

1) New express "P" bus route as per laid out below for commuters or those wanting to connect to nearby SE/SW towns. Like a p4, p12 or p13

OR

2) Adapt existing honor oak p4 and p12 to stop at Forest Hill fire station and forest Hill train station  -it stops at the Horniman museum which is on the outskirts of Forest Hill and requires anyone to bit fit and able enough to walk up a steep hill for 20 minutes to get to it - this is unfair on the less able. This is also not in the Forest Hill town centre or near the station.

PROPOSAL:

This petition is for better public transport links to and from the Forest Hill area. Not just into central London but into the surrounding town hubs of SE.

The new proposed express  bus route would stop at key stations between Forest Hill and Brixton.  Offering better transport links for commuters to London Victoria Train Station ( through West Dulwich Station),  Kings Cross St Pancreas & London Blackfriars ( through Herne Hill Station) and the Victoria Line (Brixton)

This will significantly help connect commuters who live in Forest Hill to key hub stations and trains. Which in turn, will reduce car traffic along lordship lane and the a205. In terms of train options - it will decrease load on the Windrush and London Bridge Lines - currently commuters rely on these lines to connect through to other destinations.

Any current bus route from forest hill to the likes of brixton or herne hill  would currently take around 1 hour by bus. A journey by car that takes 25 minutes.

Route and map proposed below.

Proposed Route:

Name: FOREST HILL Express Bus

Starting Point: Forest Hill Fire Station
Ending Point: Brixton Station

Route Path:

  • Forest Hill Fire Station
  • Forest Hill Train Station
  • West Dulwich train station > (London Victoria)
  • Herne Hill train station  (Elephant and Castle - Bakerloo and Northerline, Blackfriars, and London Kings Cross, St Pancreas International).
  • Brixton Underground station (Victoria Line)

Bus Frequency: At least 15-20 minutes during peak hours, and 30 minutes during off-peak hours.
Duration of journey: Total end to end journey time of 35 mins if you need to use the full route.

Type of Bus: Efficient low 1 level electric bus or  double-decker bus for increased capacity.

Rationale:Improved Connectivity: This route would provide a direct and efficient link between SE23 and major transport hubs, making it easier for residents to travel to work, leisure, or other destinations.

Reduced Travel Time: By taking a direct route, this bus route would significantly reduce travel time compared to current options that involve multiple transfers.

Increased Accessibility: The route would provide access to a wider range of destinations and opportunities for residents of SE23.
