Accredit UON/BCAA BCE: Engineers Australia Full Status & Singapore IES Recognition

The Issue

Dear Supporters,

We, the students of the Bachelor's in Civil Engineering (BCE) program offered by the University of Newcastle (UON) conferred by BCA Academy in Singapore, come together with a shared goal: to fight for the accreditation that our program deserves.

Our journey began back in our first year when we were informed about the importance of accreditation. We were thrilled to know that our BCE program was on track to obtain accreditation from Engineers Australia and the Institution of Engineers Singapore (IES). However, to our dismay, we recently discovered that our program had failed the accreditation process, and worse yet, we were not even notified about it.

This setback has had a significant impact on our career prospects. The BCE program brochure explicitly stated our eligibility to apply for positions as Resident Engineers upon graduation. However, without the accreditation, this opportunity has been unjustly taken away from us. We question why our counterparts studying the same course materials and undergoing the same exams in Australia, specifically at Callaghan, can have their degrees accredited by the Professional Engineers Board (PEB) in Singapore, while we face this unfortunate obstacle.

We firmly believe that every student deserves equal recognition for their academic achievements, regardless of their location. By obtaining full status from Engineers Australia and gaining accreditation from IES, we can ensure that our hard work and dedication are acknowledged not only in Australia but also in Singapore.

Recent updates from our lecturers have provided a glimmer of hope. The BCE program has received provisional accreditation from Engineers Australia, which is an encouraging step forward. However, it is crucial for us to secure full status from Engineers Australia and pursue accreditation from IES to level the playing field and have our degrees recognized in Singapore.

To achieve our goal, we are planning an online interview session between Engineers Australia and our graduate students. This interview will provide an opportunity to showcase the exceptional quality of our program and advocate for full status accreditation. We appreciate the support and availability of our fellow students during this crucial session.

It is not just about us; it is about fairness, equal opportunities, and the recognition we deserve as aspiring civil engineers. We call upon our fellow students, alumni, faculty members, industry professionals, and concerned individuals to join us in signing this petition. Together, we can make a resounding statement to UON, BCA Academy, Engineers Australia, and IES, urging them to accredit the UON/BCAA BCE program fully.

By signing this petition, you are not only standing in solidarity with us, but you are also supporting the future of civil engineering education in Singapore. Let us show that we are a united front and that our determination knows no bounds.

Sign the petition now and let our voices be heard. Together, we can pave the way for a brighter future for civil engineering education in Singapore.
