Absolutely No: Kick Out Dictator Lukashenko’s From Trump’s “Board of Peace”
The Issue
Alexander Lukashenko, Belarus’s dictator since 1994, is now sitting on Trump’s “Board of Peace.”
Yes, really.
According to Reuters, Lukashenko signed an agreement to join the new U.S.-led council—despite his ongoing repression of dissent, violent crackdowns on protests, and loyalty to Vladimir Putin, including support for Russia’s war in Ukraine.
This is the same Lukashenko who:
- Ordered mass arrests and torture of thousands of peaceful protesters after the rigged 2020 election,
- Helped Putin launch the invasion of Ukraine from Belarusian soil,
- And continues to imprison journalists, opposition leaders, and civil society activists.
Trump’s move to include Lukashenko—alongside a proposed invitation to Putin himself—is not peacebuilding. It’s legitimizing authoritarianism.
We, the undersigned, call on:
- The White House and Trump administration to revoke Lukashenko’s invitation and remove him from any role in the “Board of Peace”;
- All other countries invited to join the board to refuse participation if Lukashenko remains a member;
- And for the U.S. to reaffirm support for Belarusian political prisoners, independent journalists, and the right of the Belarusian people to choose their own future.
You don’t promote peace by giving power to dictators. You don’t fight for freedom by rehabilitating the men who crush it.
Tell Trump: Lukashenko does not belong on any peace board—not now, not ever.
