Abortion Is Medical Care: Reinstate Workplace Protections Now

The Issue

A federal judge just struck down a critical rule that required employers to provide reasonable accommodations for workers seeking or recovering from abortion care. This protection was part of the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act, a bipartisan law meant to ensure pregnant people are treated with fairness and dignity at work.

Abortion is medical care. Whether it is due to health risks, a heartbreaking diagnosis, or a personal decision, it deserves the same support and accommodations as any other pregnancy-related procedure. Denying workers time off or support after a medical procedure is discrimination.

This ruling endangers workers, especially those in low-wage jobs who already face the greatest barriers to care. It also sends a chilling message: that the health and lives of women and pregnant people are negotiable.

We demand the immediate reinstatement of abortion accommodations in the workplace. No one should have to choose between their health and their job. This is about fairness, privacy, and protecting the right to receive necessary medical care without fear.
