Amid escalating living costs, I am finding it increasingly difficult to meet the ever-demanding necessity of paying property taxes. The struggle is real, not only for me but also for many other low-income homeowners across the country who continually juggle between rent payments, food, healthcare, transportation, and other everyday expenses.
According to the National Low Income Housing Coalition, one in four renter households spend more than half of their income on housing, making it challenging to afford necessities such as food, clothing, transportation, and medical care. Additionally, struggling households that manage to become property owners are often cornered by the relentlessness of property taxes.
By eliminating residential property taxes for low-income homeowners, we could alleviate some of the financial struggles faced by these individuals and families daily. This petition calls for reforms in our current tax system to provide a much-needed echo of respite among low-earners who already shoulder a considerable burden.
