As you may know, in the 2010 film The Social Network, Max Minghella portrays Harvard Connection co-founder Divya Narendra. This is wrong for a few reasons, but the most compelling is that there was never a need for Max Minghella to do brownface when Dev Patel was here all along. Minghella is half Italian, a quarter Chinese, and a quarter Jewish. I agree that Minghella looks a little brown, but the fact of the matter is, he isn't. After Patel's break out role in Skins, he was already on the scene, and his influence only increased with his starring role in Slumdog Millionaire (2008). At the start of principal photography, Dev Patel was 20 years old, the exact right age to be playing a Harvard nerd. I have searched far and wide and I cannot fathom a reason why Dev Patel was not cast as Divya. So I am asking the makers of The Social Network to reconsider. I checked, and Patel wasn't doing anything in 2009 when filming took place. I think we should re-edit the movie so that Patel can take Minghella's role. By not re-editing this movie, we are all being complicit in brownface.
