A walking & cycling trail linking Lakes Entrance & Lake Tyers Beach
The issue
We believe our communities deserve a safe, accessible and enjoyable way to walk and cycle between Lakes Entrance and Lake Tyers Beach.
We are calling for the investigation and development of a dedicated walking and cycling trail, including a proposed 60-metre pedestrian bridge across Lake Bunga.
The project would connect approximately 3.5–4km of existing tracks and paths, creating a safer route for locals and visitors while opening up new opportunities for recreation, tourism and local businesses.
The proposed bridge would sit alongside the historic timber tramway bridge, built in 1891 by the Lake Tyers Timber Company, creating an opportunity to celebrate and connect with our region’s history.
East Gippsland Shire Council has reviewed the initial project submission and directed organisers to Parks Victoria, which manages the land surrounding the proposed corridor. Council has also indicated its willingness to provide advocacy support and formal letters of endorsement to strengthen future applications for state and federal funding.
