Most Australians are aware of the fire dangers that threaten large areas as temperatures go into the 40’s. The `solitary cat’ as mentioned in previous updates is surrounded by long grass and a 100 acre woodland to the rear of its pen. The other 2 cats are also penned in and surrounded by very long grass. The owner of Camp Kitty has a poor record when it comes to dealing with fire risk issues. On 10th February 2016 on a blistering hot day with high warm winds a fire was lit on his property to burn rubbish (see photo). The Fire Brigade was called, they attended, extinguished the fire and issued McCudden with a warning. At that time there were many cats present at Camp Kitty! Please contact the Council to encourage them to enforce measures which would ensure McCudden takes effective action to secure the health, safety and welfare of the remaining cats at Camp Kitty. You may remember that on 16 November 2017 a letter was sent to Mr Devery, General Manager Cowra Council regarding the Director of Environmental Services and the management of the Camp Kitty situation. (see update Cowra Council- is this an acceptable environment for cats?). His response is as below. `I acknowledge receipt of your email sent on 17 November 2017 and advise that I do not intend to respond to the questions raised therein’ . That response gives a true indication of Cowra Shire Council’s ability and interest in managing issues. Contact details Council Tel - 02 6340 2000 Email - council@cowra.nsw.gov.au Readers should be aware that our attempts in the past to get a safe environment for the cats have met with little or no success. This is why your help is requested, if you email or telephone the Council this will be the most powerful way to help those animals! Readers should also be aware that we strive to achieve change for these poor animals in a way that is legal and for which those cats are entitled to under law! I shall only act in a manner that is legal but shall fight to ensure that others respect and uphold the law, whether public bodies, charities or individuals.
