Fix the Xbox 360 Sniper Elite 3's DLC Achievement Issue

The Issue

Achievements for the Xbox 360 release of Sniper Elite 3's fourth story DLC, "Save Churchill: Part 3 - Confrontation," cannot be unlocked when playing this DLC via the 360 Sniper Elite 3's disc-based "Ultimate Edition."

The 360 "Ultimate Edition" differs from many "Game of the Year" editions on the Xbox 360 because the three story DLCs included with it -- the three "Save Churchill" DLCs -- are stored on the same disc as the base game content. This is an unusual circumstance. Few "Game of the Year" editions are released, fewer still where the DLC is not stored on a separate disk or redeemed via code.

The issue at hand is that 505 Games and Rebellion released a version of the 360 Sniper Elite 3 containing a playable rendition of the DLC in question which, for whatever reason, does not allow players to also unlock that DLC's four achievements. Players have been able to unlock those four achievements when playing the disc-based 360 "Ultimate Edition," but only after buying the DLC in question over Xbox Live Marketplace for $7.99, in effect paying for the DLC twice in order to be able to unlock that DLC's achievements once.

It's disappointing that 505 Games and Rebellion have not addressed this problem since the March 2015 release of the 360 "Ultimate Edition."

One can argue that because the "Save Churchill: Part 3 - Confrontation" DLC is playable on the 360 "Ultimate Edition" that 505 and Rebellion cannot be found to be at fault. We in the achievement-related online communities, TrueAchievements and Xbox Achievements, argue otherwise. Our inability to unlock this DLC's achievements while playing the 360 "Ultimate Edition" without paying for the DLC in question again is disappointing because the ability to successfully unlock a game's achievements composes an absolutely essential part of the game-playing experience for us.

This quandary could be fixed in several ways. The most straightforward would be to make the "Save Churchill: Part 3 - Confrontation" DLC a free download on Xbox Live Marketplace, since we already know that the achievements are unlockable when playing the 360 "Ultimate Edition" if you purchase the DLC. A second fix could be 505 and Rebellion issuing a Title Update for the 360 version of Sniper Elite 3 that would fix the issue. A third fix could be 505 and Rebellion issuing codes to those requesting them with which we could redeem and download the "Save Churchill: Part 3 - Confrontation" DLC for free. The least labor-intensive way to fix this would be the first, however.

We look forward to the release of Sniper Elite 4 in February 2017. The issue with the 360 "Ultimate Edition" can't help but to leave a sour taste in our mouths, however. Addressing the issue would be a show of good faith towards the achievement communities and the wider gaming public which would only help your businesses going forward.
