#AmendThePCA - Increase Penalty for Animal Abuse

#AmendThePCA - Increase Penalty for Animal Abuse
The Issue
Rs 50.
That’s the maximum fine that the couple in Noida would have to pay for torturing Buddy their 6 month old Labrador puppy by feeding him his own leash and banging him repeatedly against the wall and breaking his bones, or the boys in Kerala for hooking a dog to fish bait by it's paw and beating it to death, or the Marble cutter for cutting a stray puppy in half along his tummy. If the last few months are anything to go by, the examples are endless. Rs. 50 is what they pay and then they walk free.
Existing law (under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act (PCA) 1960) stipulates a penalty between Rs 10 and Rs 50 for any act of cruelty against animals, including beating, kicking, torturing, starving and mutilating the animal.
This law has not been amended since it came into existence in 1960.
The monsoon session of Parliament began on the 19th of July. Now is the time to urge our honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji and the Minister for Animal Husbandry Shri Parshottam Rupala ji along with the Government to vote to amend the PCA Act, thereby making it a law.
When you sign the petition, you are starting the conversation and taking a step toward changing a 60 year old law, and making it stricter against animal abuse.
When you sign, you deter others from torturing animals.
Please tag your friends and share widely. Let's make this happen together. #AmendThePCA
