I would like felons who have changed there lives around a better chance to get jobs and housing.
The Issue
Back In 2003 I was arrested for manufacturing meth. I was 19 years old. I was married at the time. It was such a hard time for me and my family. All i kept thinking was "i don't even know how to make it". And "How could this happen to me." I was very young and naive. I have since then been rehabilitated. I now think of what could have happened and what could have been if I didn't get into trouble and go down with everyone else like I did. I was blessed with a second chance. Do do some kind of good in this world with what I do have. However with having all that hope I can't help but to feel how helpless I feel to my children. I have to reside with my parents cause Its hard for me to get a place to live with 3 children. I can't get any low income cause of the class X felony on my record. With today's economy and jobless rate I tried to go into business for myself as a maid. I have recently stepped away from doing that due to there not being a real market for that here. I now work at a car wash where I make less than 8.50 an hour. Not nearly enough to support 3 kids and get my own place. I would love to have a chance and see others like me who have seriously made a change get the same decent respect as other fellow Americans. How can the ones that changed be better people if they are always put down and turned away. When I was in prison I seen a lot of repeat offender's. I blame the lack of rehab programs. When I paroled out I couldn't even come home care there were no places for me to go. Where I live in the Quad Cities there were no programs for women that I was told about. I also know others that have had a hard time as well and I hope by this petition people will learn to understand that not all felons are bad and not all of them stay criminals. They just want a chance to prove themselves and have good jobs and places to live so they can support themselves and family.
