One of the goals I think we've been given as a country has been to see equal opportunity for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered/transexuals in the workplace.  Right now, our system is based on looking at Census data and having HR and agencies compare against it.  The census looks at race and binomial gender but it doesn't look at orientation. In order to include sexual orientation in non-discrimination clauses and have it be enforceable, the groundwork of census information and analysis must be available.  We might need an "Other" category too in the upcoming census if someone does not wish to identify, in the same way that "Two or More" functions for the current race categories on HR forms and Census questionairres.
