The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is an autonomous agency under the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India. Established in 1988 and operationalized in 1995, it is responsible for the management, development, operation, and maintenance of the National Highways in India. NHAI is also in charge of toll collection and policy implementation, as well. Notably, the authority is engaged in the execution of the National Highways Development Project (NHDP), the largest ever highway development plan undertaken by the country.
