The road is one of the green corridors that lead to the largest tourist destination - Kovalam which is on the map. The trees have been planted with public support 2 decaces back and belong to some attractive flowering varieties. The loss of so many trees -6000 of them will have a huge negative impact on the water table, the microclimate and will cause loss of habitats for birds and other animals. The road can be widened by retaining the row of trees as a median. This will help prevent accidents from glare of lights, decrease sound and air pollution besides cooling the tarred roads. We are not against the highway but we are for review of the  development plan that will maintain the trees already there.
