Houston City Council is the legislative body for the city of Houston, the largest city in the state of Texas. Comprised of sixteen members, it includes the Mayor, who is elected citywide, and fifteen council members, eleven of whom are elected from districts and five through general elections. Major responsibilities of this council include the adoption or enactment of legislation, the review and adoption of the city's budget, and the oversight of efficiency in local governance.
