The DC Council, officially known as the Council of the District of Columbia, serves as the legislative branch of the local government within Washington, DC, the capital of the United States. The council is composed of 13 members, each of whom is elected for a four-year term. There are eight wards, each represented by one member, along with five members who are elected at-large. The Council's primary responsibilities include creating laws, setting policies, and overseeing the budget and fiscal health of the city. It works in close collaboration with the Mayor to ensure the smooth running of the district's governance.
