The Comisión Nacional de Derechos Humanos (CNDH) is the national human rights institution in Mexico. Established in 1990, it is designed to promote and protect human rights in the country. The CNDH has the authority to investigate complaints of human rights violations committed by public authorities, produce recommendations for public policies, and promote human rights education. Its central headquarters are situated in Mexico City, yet it operates through a network of regional offices spread out across Mexico’s federative entities. The CNDH acts with complete autonomy from the Mexican government and is not directed or supervised by any public authority or official.
