The 2nd Amendment was ratified on December 15, 1791 and reads as follows:  

"A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed."   

Some very important words in that sentence must be defined.

Arms, per the Merriam-Webster dictionary, means "weapons and ammunition". It does not mean "guns" specifically.  

In fact, at the time the 2nd Amendment was ratified, the only "Arms" available were swords, muskets, flintlock pistols, single-shot rifles, and cannons. And a private citizen was NEVER legally allowed to own an operational cannon.  

"Well-regulated" means a person could not just do anything they wanted; laws and rules apply and must be adhered to or a violator will face the penalty.

"Militia" means a military force that is raised from the civil population to supplement a regular, professional Army in an emergency. An example of this is the National Guard.  

Based upon the intentions of our forefathers, a private citizen may own a sword, musket, flintlock pistol, or single-shot rifle for use when they are called up by a state militia (aka the National Guard) to assist the U.S. military during a crisis.

Automatic, semi-automatic, and other battlefield style weapons DID NOT EXIST at the time the 2nd Amendment was ratified and, certainly, their ownership by any private citizen who wants one was not what our forefathers intended. They are, therefore, not protected by the 2nd Amendment.

Guns have one purpose:
TO KILL.

Therefore, you cannot claim to be "pro-life" and "pro-gun".
It's impossible.

If your claim is that you need an AR-15, AK-47 or other similar style weapon for hunting, YOU SUCK AT IT.
Take up knitting.

We The People are tired of burying our sons & daughters, husbands & wives, mothers & fathers, friends & neighbors before their time.

We The People say ENOUGH !!! 

If you feel that you need to own a weapon for personal protection, then make your case in an application to Federal authorities... pass a universal (and international) background check with no history of criminal activity, violence, or mental health crisis... complete an annual training program that includes responsible operation, proper cleaning, and how to store your weapon safely & securely, plus basic first aid... carry liability insurance... and obtain a Federal-level license that must be renewed annually at a reasonable fee. That licensing fee will be used to create a public fund to prevent gun violence and in support of medical care for survivors, as well as burial costs for victims.  

We The People hereby electronically affix our hand to this petition to request Congress act posthaste to prevent yet another mass shooting in the United States by banning the sale, ownership, and use of assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, as well as any after-market kit or parts that enable another style of weapon to be used in the same manner as an assault weapon. We request that the minimum Federal sentence for violation of this ban be 25 years to Life in prison, without parole, with the maximum sentence issued in the event of any loss of life resulting from a violation of this ban.  

This petition has been written in accordance with the author and signatories First Amendment right to petition the government for a redress of our grievances.
