Yonkers City Council konumundaki başarılar

Unlike traditional metered parking (which typically runs from 8 AM to 8 PM), these new regulations require payment at all hours, with a 12-hour max limit. Nearby streets (ie: Kimball Ave & Bronx River Road) still have free parking. Why is our street being singled out? No communication or warning was given to residents before this drastic change. This adds an unnecessary expense to residents who have relied on free parking for years. Ample parking was once a key advantage of living here—now, property values may suffer. With fewer nearby parking options, many residents—especially those coming home late—are now forced to park further away and walk home alone at night, creating a serious safety risk.

I am fortunate enough that these meters don't affect me: I live on Midland and have space in my lot. However, I agree this is an undue burden for a lot of folks. I suppose I understand the idea of greater turnover & thus more parking, except that there's way too little parking already, so all the folks who work here (hair salon, pizzeria, etc.) have nowhere to park and shouldn't have to feed meters all day. Same goes for visitors of residents here, or Fleetwood commuters. Bx River Rd also has very little parking. Meters do not solve the problem.

I’ve reached out to Yonkers Parking Executive Director Gail Burns with the following questions and haven’t received a response. 1. How will seniors who utilize parking in this area, who do not have access to the park mobile app, be able to pay for parking? 2. Please provide the Board Minutes and Resolution detailing the vote on this change. 3. When street cleaning occurs on the opposite side of the parking meter area, where are the residents expected to park? 4. Did the YPA consider the impact on the number of parking spots being removed from residents in this building neighborhood? Let’s continue to send emails and call the City of Yonkers for answers! I also reached out to our councilman John Rubbo for our district with the following questions and have not heard back either. 1.City ordinance states “Meters are intended for short term parking and quick turnover in BUSINESS areas” Is this area considered a business area? If you are familiar with this area there are many co op buildings and as I stated before parking is heavily relied upon. 2.Has Chapter 109-108 been updated to reflect this new location of parking meter zone? 3. City Council President and Councilman Mr. Rubbo per chapter 109-109 the “City Council shall have the exclusive power and authority to discontinue parking meter zones created pursuant to this article.” Can this issue be addressed by the council? Let’s continue to work together as a community to get this new meter parking OVERTURNED!!!

I agree with the removal of the Midland Ave parking meters, as a fellow resident in the area. These meters are a daily inconvenience that add unnecessary stress to residents and visitors. They make routine errands more time-consuming and often feel like a money grab rather than a solution to parking issues. Removing them would make life easier for everyone in the community, reduce frustration, and encourage more local activity without constantly worrying about feeding meters.

Having collaborated with Councilmember Diaz on multiple noise related issues in years past I was disappointed to see her sponsor the roll back of critical noise protections. Voting to weaken noise standards goes against multiple scientific studies linking excessive noise to hearing loss, hypertension and other health concerns.. Why would anyone take such a thoughtless, callous and careless action? It's time for our City Council to correct this mistake - our community's health and well being must be protected! - Mike Hertz, Member - River Communities Coalition of Yonkers (RCCY)

I’ve seen firsthand how much Ms. Jordan pours into her work at the AMES Center. Her love, energy, and commitment make all the difference for these kids. Shutting this down would be a step backward for the entire community.

As a parent of a child who attends the Ames Early Childhood Center, I am deeply saddened and concerned by the news that the school may be forced to close due to an unaffordable lease demand from the City of Yonkers. Ames is not just a school – it’s a lifeline. It provides high-quality early education and critical special education services to preschoolers, many of whom come from Yonkers and NYC. The staff are compassionate, skilled, and dedicated to helping every child thrive. For children like mine, who need extra support, Ames has made a life-changing difference.

Ms. Jordan is one of the most patient, dedicated, and loving teachers I’ve ever seen. The kids light up when they see her — losing her and the AMES Center would be a huge loss for these families.

Mrs. Coley  and Ms. Jordan have a gift, they  reach children in ways most people can’t. The AMES Center gives them the space to do that work, and taking it away would hurt the very kids who need it most.

In addition to being a historical site, this building served as a lighthouse to the community, providing children's programs and resources for people in crisis.
