Broomhill is one of the only public green spaces in Sooke to support an active outdoor community. Ive hiked and biked broomhill with my dog for many years. If we lose this space our community will suffer
I'm a new resident in Sooke and I have benefited from new development, therefore, I believe that some growth is good for the community, its commerce and infrastructure. However, said developments cannot go unchecked; they require proper planning and preservation of green spaces and habitats. Let's not create an environment of overpopulation and increased traffic. The property at 2396 Mountain Heights Drive is currently zoned RU2 and RU4, which supports rural, low-density development (PLN01883). Farrell Estates has applied to rezone the land to R3 (small-lot residential), RM1 (multi-unit residential), and C1 (neighbourhood commercial), drastically increasing density and allowing significant urbanization of greenfield land outside the Sewer Specified Area (SSA).
Rezoning this land would permanently transform the rural character of this area, impacting wildlife, ecosystems, and the natural charm that makes Sooke unique.
Our wonderful nature in Sooke is disappearing at an alarming rate. BroomHill offers a wonderful opportunity to preserve some nature that could be enjoyed by generations to come.
