I care about this issue because what if there were something to happen at school and I’m at lunch and my backpack is in the classroom? Wouldn’t I want to at least tell my family members I loved them in case of a drastic emergency??

As a student I understand banning phones during instructional time. I even agree that it is a reasonable rule. However, during my free time I use my phone to communicate rides for after school activities or any other things I must communicate to my parents. By banning phones during this time it makes this difficult. Additionally, this is my free time in the day so it can’t really disrupt learning time since I’m not supposed to have to do schoolwork during this time.

We live in a country where school shootings are a daily occurrence. If, God forbid, this were to happen to my school, I’d at least like to text my parents that I love them.

I personally feel as though I need my cellphone to check my after school plans such as robotics as well as my family. I need updates on my sisters and I shouldn't have to go ask a teacher to use my own personal device. Many others think the same and it's truthfully about your trust and respect for students.

Our phones are taken away for various reasons, including the need to communicate and socialize with our peers. However, when we do talk, we often get in trouble for being too loud. We should at least be allowed to use our phones during transitions and lunch, as these are times when we aren't disturbing anyone.

Virginia High School students should be able to use their phones during breaks and or free time. Students who complete their work shouldn’t be punished, as this phone policy is only in place to target certain individuals. This absolute ban is incredibly selfish, to state as clearly as I can. Student’s won’t be able to contact parents or guardians if there happens to be an emergency, and all the policy has to offer is to make the student tell their parents through the front office. It’s an invasion of privacy, comfort, and overall security issue within the school. There will be more resentment towards the school board and education itself if this gets passed, many students will simply go against this policy anyway. People have seen it before, it’ll just keep repeating itself. Thank you.

This impacts the ability for our families to contact us during the day and inhibits our ability to reply in case of emergencies this also may effect the ability to do school work in the sense that we don’t always have enough computers and sometimes the WiFi is down so we have to rely on outside sources. This would refer to sometimes our personal laptops but it shouldn’t be expected for every student to own one. Due to their own personal reasons many students can not own a personal laptop and in case where the school ones have a defect there wouldn’t be no other way to back them up.

while I understand some students may have issues with having their phones out the whole, to punish everyone for this seems a bit excessive, especially banning them during lunch which is honestly the only time free time we get to unwind which in some schools is only 23 minutes. its unfair and honestly is way to harsh and quick. we need to adjust.

We need to be allowed to use our phones during non-instructional time. If they take away our phones, instead of treating us like responsible high-schoolers, then what will happen in the event of an emergency? With no way to communicate with family or call the police, people will be scared for their lives. What about the people who have to keep track of extra-curriculars? We use the remind app, and sometimes we get notifications 30 minutes before that we need to be somewhere during our enrichment time, and what happens if we don’t get that notification?
