Personally being linked to drama in high school as well as band and chorus, being a prominent voice, president and senior to all of my programs i recognize as so many others do that in my life, these art programs ESPECIALLY drama, it has helped me significantly through so many moments in my life as well as creating a one safe space for me in my high school career allowing me friends and the ability to blossom more as a person. I believe that these art programs are so important, easily as important as any other class in any school.
I'm a future MHS kid, literally going next year, and I've been in band for four years. Cutting the arts is like cutting a part of someone's life out. Art helps us express ourselves, whether it be visual or audio. It helps people cope and for some it comes as easy as breathing. I struggle with being adopted and having anxiety, and cutting the arts is honestly really stupid. Without art, there's no point in having the other classes, because no one who loves art is going to go when there's nothing to look forward to. That's my position, and I think as a current 8th grader, it's important.
Theatre is really important! My high school had great funding for its arts department and it was one of the best and most impactful aspects of my high school experience.
Without the fine arts department, How will kids express themselves? Because they surely won’t do it through school work… We need to fully fund extra curricular activities in our schools so kids can have fun in school and cherish their limited time there
The arts are a critical piece of a well rounded education. Today, they benefit all students and also the local community. Tomorrow, they benefit all of society as today’s students have gained skills like self confidence, public speaking, community engagement - all skills we need more of. We will all pay a larger price in the future if we don’t find a way to make this work today.
The Art Programs at Methuen High School (MHS) definitely helps our students practice and improve their communications skills and these skills are key and important to have no matter what field they are heading toward including business, medicine, and law as they need these skills to excel in their field.
My granddaughter and many of her friends have strongly participated in the MHS Art Programs for the past 2 years and are very much looking to continuing in the MHS Art Programs going forward. Please keep and enhance the Art Programs at MHS. Thank you, Patrick
The arts are an important and necessary part of any child’s education, and is what made me who I am today. They are NOT something that can be replaced by something “more important”, as they are integral to a student’s development just as any other discipline is.
As an alumnus of MHS, I can confidently say that the theater department was one of the most transformative parts of my high school experience. It gave me a voice, a community, and a sense of purpose during a time when I was still figuring out who I was.
Theater is more than just a class or a stage—it’s a space where students learn confidence, empathy, teamwork, and creativity. Taking that away doesn’t just affect the current students; it erases an opportunity for future generations to grow in ways that traditional classrooms can’t always provide.
Please reconsider cutting the theater program. Its impact lasts far beyond the final curtain call.

As a student, Without art programs in the curriculum, I wouldn’t have been able to survive past last year. The arts have seriously helped me through my school years, and by removing it, you limit the creativity of the children going through our society.
