paying for a scarf just to admire it from afar is actually crazy work. teachers dressed for an antarctic expedition meanwhile we’re fighting for our lives in period 1. they act like we’re hiding the nuclear launch codes in a thin knitted scarf. starting to think the heaters are just decorative and the cold is part of the curriculum. if i fail this term it won’t be because i didn’t study it’ll be because my fingers physically stopped functioning by period 3. at this point the school should either free the scarves or provide complimentary hot chocolates at the gate.

What’s the point of having scarves just for before school? Before school we are warmly tucked away in our cars- I wish I could say the same about class. I can barely focus on my work while I’m trying to heat up my face and neck. We have to sit there freezing, meanwhile the teachers wear layers of clothes- the least you can do is let us wear them because there is no point having them just for decoration in our locker.

I genuinely feel like our school is becoming so much more restrictive, and it’s frustrating because it feels like we’re constantly losing small freedoms and forms of self-expression for no real reason. First it was fake lashes, now scarves are banned, and they’ve become so much stricter about how we wear our hair too. It honestly feels like every minute there’s another rule telling us how we’re allowed to look, instead of just letting students express themselves in normal, harmless ways. Having our hair down, wearing lashes, or wearing a scarf in winter does not affect our education or make us bad students, yet these things are treated like major issues. Teachers have scarfs why cant I? The scarf ban especially makes no sense to me. Apparently one person cheated using a scarf, so now every student is punished because of it. That logic is ridiculous. Why is my scarf suddenly considered a problem when I’m literally wearing it because I’m freezing? I would love my scarf to not be decorative tysm xxxx Instead of dealing with one individual situation, the school created a blanket rule that affects everyone, which just feels unfair and unnecessary. What makes it worse is how poorly the rule was communicated. We were told at the very end of last year, right before holidays, so obviously most people forgot over the break. Then today I got a lunch restoration immediately IN HOME ROOM BOI, without even getting a warning first. That’s the part that really bothered me. If the school actually wanted students to follow the rule, you’d think there would at least be reminders or a warning before punishment. My brother's PUBLIC school has better communication than this. At this point, it feels less like the school cares about student wellbeing and more like they care about controlling every tiny aspect of our appearance. ALSO Miss Lang was telling people to remove their scarves then walked past my friend group hugging her jacket. YOURE WARM IM NOT. OUR SCHOOL IS DEVOLVING. anyways hope yous enjoyed my rant xx

As a VCE student who already struggles with attendance and grades due to health issues, this change is concerning. These constant changes in timetable for not only VCE students but the rest of the years is stressful and disorientating for minimal affect in attendance of well being sessions. The student response is telling you that this will mostly affect student's wellbeing negatively, whether for sleep, change, health, or attendance reasons, which cannot be properly counteracted by brief wellbeing and communities sessions efforts. Look into how to make wellbeing sessions more helpful and why people aren't attending in the first place instead of making this unreasonably large adjustment.

As a student, I know firsthand how much of a difference a proper night's sleep makes to how we learn, focus, and function. Starting school earlier especially halfway through the year will only increase the pressure and fatigue we're already dealing with. Teenagers aren't just being lazy; science shows that our brains are wired to wake up later. Cutting our sleep short for the sake of a new schedule isn't going to boost our performance, it’s going to burn us out. We need the sleep-ins we currently have to be at our best academically and mentally. Please don’t take that away. Our health and education should come before timetable convenience.

Something that stood out and set this school apart to me was the timetable and how it worked well with my circadian rhythm. Changing the timetable will be a negative change and remove what makes this school better than others.

Young people are facing a rental crisis, a housing crisis and a cost of living crisis. It feels impossible to move forward in life, despite doing what I thought would be best for my future by gaining a professional career. Instead, I slogged through 6 years of full time uni working part time on minimum wage, and am then punished with a $150k hecs debt. Meanwhile I see older generations thriving, knowing they had a huge leg up from their free education and cheap housing. Something needs to be done
