As a former employee of this BILOS, I wish the building could be utilized to help our community.
Lance supported: Transform the Vacant Bilo Building into a Community Sports Hub
As a long time, Black mountain resident. We need more spaces indoors open to the public. Options for our kids, indoors. For a long time I’ve wished for something to happen with this building. I hope it is considered.

As someone going into the game making space it really sucks to see games get gatekept by raising prices and getting rid of inclusion/spaces for people to enjoy a game together.

As a graduate who has gone to compete in Atlantic City, I believe that this is an experience future students should witness for themselves in a collegiate setting. It has allowed me to create powerful memories that I will often look back on. Removing this would, unfortunately, take away the opportunity for future competitors to have a truly meaningful experience.

I am a graduate from Canisius who was only on the Smash Bros team for my senior year. Due to a lack of funds, we didn't go to Atlantic City last year. Now, despite holding more fundraisers, the MAAC tanks the rug out from us and decides to limit the tournament to the top 4. This means Canisius gets screwed a second year in a row. I wouldn't wish that on any current students at Canisius. Why should the MAAC?

I am one of Manhattan College ex captains. I was very fortunate to attended 3 years of in person LAN Events hosted by the MAAC. The in-person events were by far the most important part of the League. It was a monumental event that myself as a captain and my team members have looked forward to every year. My team despite funding challenges were willing to pay out of pocket for transport and housing, dedicated time for training and practices. These are months if not a whole year of planning and strategizing to perform on stage. Leagues like these have allowed me to get to know numerous wonderful people in different schools. The competition builds relationships stronger than no other. After learning that the league is intending to restrict competition to the only selected few top contenders this, I believe will have negative consequences to the longevity of MAAC Esports. The annual LAN event is the strongest factor that set the League from public hosted ones. If teams aren't competing together on stage, what's the point of playing in the MAAC and not just join publicly hosted online events? Collegiate esports are an incredibly time-consuming endeavor. Everyone who have competed will know the amount of time and effort people put in to perform on stage while fulfilling their scholarly duties. It takes commitment, passion and love for the sports they play. By restricting the event, this will overtime kill the passion from weaker schools. No passion, no people = no team => no league. Rosters come and goes, no one dominates the league forever. Manhattan College League of Legends started as a bottom tier team in the MAAC and they have rose through the ranks and became finalists for many years and performed well in many other titles as well. It was a story of pure passion and dedication for their school and sports. I am convinced in order to keep the passion going, the LAN event is utmost important in this matter. If longevity is the goal of the League, then the LAN event must stay open and welcoming to every schools.

I was lucky enough to be able to go to the MAAC LAN event last year, and it truly was an incredible experience. It’s not just about giving esports the same respect and opportunities as other sports, but it’s also about building relationships between peers and schools. The LAN events have been successful, so changing it in this way is baffling.

I have been fortunate enough to attend the three years of the Atlantic City LAN hosted by the MAAC. I have graduated and I am now a coach for my team. It is truly disappointing that the MAAC has made this decision to only have the top four schools, which isn't even half of the schools participating within the league. Not only did the MAAC cut the amount of schools going, the MAAC also made it more expensive to participate in the league. This LAN event was something that I personally have looked forward to each year, and I know how excited players were to be able to return to Atlantic City in the spring of 2025. With the news of the MAAC no longer hosting the LAN event for all schools, mass disappointment was felt by the schools who weren't in attendance for the event, hence the creation of this petition. If the MAAC was smart, they would change this decision. When I was the president of the esports club at my school, we always paid for our own room and transportation, while also paying our dues to the MAAC to participate. With multiple schools doing the same, the MAAC should be prepared to host this event and pay their staff, rather than lining their pockets with the extra cash. It is an incredibly selfish decision made by the so called "trained professionals" over at the MAAC. The MAAC is single-handedly ruining the esports experience for new and returning players with this change. The excitement of the LAN event should be shared amongst all the teams, not just the top 4. The MAAC should listen to the schools and reverse this decision before it ruins the league permanently. There is no reason for schools to return to the league if they are being treated unfairly, which can be the downfall of the MAAC esports league. The MAAC is nothing without their teams, and will fall without the teams support, which they are losing with this decision.

While I may not have been in the Esports scene for long, I can say with confidence that its a positive force that brings people together. Taking away a main cog of that just seems unnecessary if not downright greedy, so ill put my name down as many times as needed. Allowing people to meet in person builds better connections between schools and lets the students lead the charge instead of the staff. Its these reasons why ill be in full support of this petition so that MAAC can flourish once again.
