My sister used to be in the band at this school. It was a huge part of her identity, and her life. She has so many stories from being a part of this band. To think something like this is really happening, and to such a talented group of people. It kills me. It hurts my soul to think things like this are slowly going away. Please be one of the many required to stop this catastrophe from becoming a reality.

CCHS Sound of Pride was truly something wonderful to behold. I always loved listening and watching their performances during games and pep rallies. Many of my friends were in band and dedicated endless hours to practice while balancing school and it showed. There’s clearly a big love for music and the arts and the students deserve a space to be able to embrace and grow their interests and talents.

As a music teacher, there is NO WAY a band program can function if the band director is part time. This is an insult to our profession, and I will not stand by and let my fellow music educators be walked all over to meet allocation budgets.

Being in the CCHS Sound of Pride was one of the most influential organizations of my young life. The program taught me some of the most important life skills such as time management, work/life balance, and is what I attribute my hard work ethic to in my 30's. Taking this program from any student would be a tragedy to our youth. Weather the Sound of Pride is 200 people big or 15 people strong, every child should have the opportunity to gain those skills through their High School years. Please fix this now!

Being in the Sound of Pride from 2008-2012 was a formative experience for me. Marching band taught me so much about my own capabilities and delivered many life lessons I still think about today. It was the first community of people I ever chose for myself, and the bonds I formed in the Sound of Pride still serve me today. I didn't go on to a musical career, but I still play the trumpet as a hobby, and routinely warm up with exercises we played in marching band that remain drilled into my head to this day. Every student at CCHS should continue to have the opportunity to choose this community for themselves if they want it. The Sound of Pride has always been a family.

Marching band, color guard, and sports all teach students valuable skills they don't learn from books or in the classroom. To mention a few, they learn discipline and accountability, leadership, self esteem and confidence, teamwork, time management, overcoming challenges, unending patience, respect and commitment to others. All while creating friendships. It is an environment that encourages personal growth and self worth. Running a band program of any size requires a lot of time. It's definitely a full time position. Just ask anyone married to a band director. Many hours are spent on the field and with the students. And even more hours are spent off the field after the students have gone home. Every minute is spent on how to make it better for the students. The students. The students need and deserve a full time band director.

Cooper City High school has won a diverse array of band-related awards and attended events all across the state. Cooper City High School band have served so many of their own students and members of the Cooper City and south Florida community for ages, and Mr. Cochrac has been pivotal in bringing it to a level we haven't seen in a long time. Of all stories, Frankly, it's unacceptable acknowledging all the progress him and the CCHS band program have achieved especially as shown on Local 10 news and then stripping him of his role which will not sustain the Sound of Pride well if kept part-time. I've won many awards in band myself because of Mr. Cochrac's mentorship as my teacher. From performing in All-State, All-County, and USF Festival of Winds honor bands, to being nominated for the music category of Miami Herald's Silver Knight award, to winning $1500 in music scholarships including the Broward Arts for the Future scholarship. I owe a lot of my achievements to Mr. Cochrac, and to cut his position even to part-time will greatly hinder a fundamental part of CCHS that serves so many students and the community year after year after year. It's a real shame

Music is a lifelong hobby and/or career that allows you to express yourself, meet an unfathomable amount of people, and teaches discipline and patience. Without school band programs a majority of the musicians I know would not have had the opportunity to fall in love with music.

It’s so important for young people to have encouragement in pursuing artistic talent. Crucial to this end are professional educators who can recognize and nurture these gifts. It’s not only about the arts, it’s also necessary to give these students the confidence and self esteem to succeed in their lives ahead.

Art deserves to be practiced by everyone, especially by teens who are aspiring artists themselves. They deserve to have a team and place where they belong and build their passions.
