When I was 18 I was assaulted by my sisters friend. She is still friends with him to this day, and she has no idea what was done to me. I have far too much shame & fear in me to admit that out loud. This year on Christmas my sister was assaulted, she was brave enough to to tell me. She still doesn’t know about what happened to me. Veronika is a very brave soul & should not be punished for it.
This is such a devastating story and still so common our justice system is broken and has been broken for years this women is a victim of rape and made into a criminal for getting evidence how she could at the time. Instead of helping this girl and giving her the justice she deserves she was silenced and charged. If not for the recording nobody but other women would believe her and they would have pushed it off like they do in multiple occasions, this happens way to often and its so infuriating to think about. Rapist never do the crime just once. our “ justice” system is supposed to be there to protect its citizens yet they pick and choose when they are willing to help its disgusting.
I want to one day join the military and look up to all the women have served and will serve in the future. Therefore when rape happens in the military it needs to be first priority. Men and women rape needs to be prioritized not ignored. We need to take care of our troops!
As a SURVIVOR of child sexual abuse by any man in my life for as long as I can remember, including my own father raping me, this needs to stop! Women are not here on this earth, simply to pleasure men. And something needs to change for Veronica the fact that she came to the police for help, but then was arrested like she was the perpetrator completely wrong.
As a rape victim, it breaks my heart to see our justice system fail us once again. How is Veronika getting charged with a felony for recording without consent, but the monster who violated her body and mind without consent is walking free? The justice system continues to fail and crumble under our feet.
Each time a woman stands up for herself, she stands up for all women. The justice system is not set up to protect people, instead it is set up to silence them. Women deserve better. After all none of us would be alive without women
Theres no way a victim of a rape should have to face charges for obtaining and providing evidence of said rape! Punish the rapists who have us scared for our lives and our childrens lives instead! And they need harder punishments than what is being given out on average nowadays. I can say as a survivor that rape is life changing and serious and needs to be treated with an equal level of seriousness and respect in the judicial system.
As a victim of sexual assault and rape that, due to lack of evidence, could not be prosecuted, Veronika should be commended for gathering evidence. She should be thanked for her bravery in coming forward, not punished for not receiving his consent when recording his actions. A man who will do this to one woman has likely done it to others and will continue until he is stopped.
I am disgusted by how the police have handled this entire situation. Women in the army have been pressured to stay silent for years. This is why. Victim blaming and victim punishment should be a thing of the past, yet here we are. I stand with you Veronica. Thank you for your courage and thank you for speaking up. You are brave, and it was not your fault.
