As a wheelchair user that drives a Ramp van independently, this is an issue that effects all my decisions. Where to go and what to do are often dictated by is there available parking. My first question is about parking availability and access.
Steve supported: Increase the Percentage of ADA Mandatory Accessible Parking Spaces
This is a huge issue that needs to be rectified. It has impacted our family, like so many others. Being able to access public places should not be such a challenge. Disability rights are human rights.

I am a wheelchair user permanently and there is never available parking because regular handicap placards are just about given to anybody . We really need to dedicate the wheelchair spots for wheelchair vans or wheelchair users only

Not only are there not enough spaces made more accessible parking, there are not enough spaces made for vehicles with wheelchair ramps. Too many people need a spot, are unaware what the lines are for, or just don’t care. We need to think of our community members who need ramps to exit their vehicles.

I’m a manual wheelchair user and often the van accessible handicap spots are taken which means I have to park far away from the hospital, stores, etc.

In the next 5-9 years I will be of age to collect the benefits the Govt. promised. We had little in 401k or other retirement benefits when I started work. So, I am relying on this as I have will have little in savings that I have lost twice in the economic downfall of the gamers that play with the market like our current 47.

My husband and I moved to take care of my elderly parents, losing close to a million because we had to sell our house in San Jose, and retire early though we both had well over 40 years of paying high taxes and Social Security. Now we would lose our last hope of living independently if we lose our Social Security. My parents, and both of us worked extremely hard with long hours for the defense of this country from Korean through Iraq conflicts and beyond. This is the definition of betrayal of citizens. And yet, there are more unfortunate people that need it as well. The cruelty is off-the-charts. Please help!

Life is already hard for those living on a fixed income. Please keep Barrington news affordable for those who need it the most. My dad lives there and is having an extremely hard time finding somewhere else to live that’s affordable.
Melissa supported: Protect Affordable Housing for Disabled and Senior Residents in Barrington Mews
I have been a long time resident of Barrington Mews since August 2009. This is my home! I've been here 15 years and like other residents, I hope to stay here. I am 67 years old and I am disabled due to Cerebral Palsy. Living at Barrington Mews has been ideal for my living situation. I like the local area, my fellow residents who I've formed friendships with over the years and my apartment meets my needs on many levels. I am on a fixed income. I receive housing assistance towards my rent. I am not in a position to afford market rent rates. If this change were to take effect, it would more than likely cause me to become displaced. Barrington Mews was built to meet the full spectrum of the various needs that disabled individuals like myself and senior citizens have. This should remain the focus for this property!
