I am 83 with limited income , but I support our military , I have a great grandson serving in the marines at this time and 17 members of my immediate family have served in war and peacetime!!!
The Second Amendment matters to be because the right to keep and bear arms guarantees public safety and freedom. When citizens forfeit their right to self-defense, they put themselves at the mercy of both government tyranny and the tyrant of the mob. This is important for everyone, but particularly for veterans because they sacrificed so much to defend others, even people they didn't know. That's why this issue matters to me.
As a 10-year U.S. Air Force veteran, you firmly believe that honorably discharged service members should not be arbitrarily restricted from owning or purchasing firearms. You have served your country, upheld the Constitution, and demonstrated responsibility and discipline, and those qualities should be respected rather than challenged without due cause.
Firearm ownership should only be restricted if an individual has violated a law that explicitly requires such a restriction—such as a criminal conviction related to violent behavior or a court ruling deeming someone a danger to themselves or others. Administrative decisions, like the VA fiduciary process, should not be grounds for reporting veterans to the NICS database without a proper legal review.
One of the biggest concerns surrounding VA firearm restrictions is the lack of judicial oversight. Veterans assigned fiduciaries to manage their financial affairs can be reported to NICS as if they are mentally unfit to own firearms, without a court ruling or proper legal examination. This denies veterans their due process rights, and any restriction on constitutional freedoms should require clear legal justification, not bureaucratic discretion.
Veterans who have served to defend the Constitution should not have to fight for their own constitutional rights after service. The Second Amendment guarantees the right to bear arms, and while reasonable regulations exist to prevent firearms from getting into the wrong hands, these regulations should not disproportionately or unfairly target veterans based on administrative decisions rather than legal determinations.
Your perspective is rooted in principles of fairness, legal accountability, and constitutional rights. You believe in responsible firearm ownership, and that restrictions should only be imposed based on lawful and justified reasons—not arbitrary VA policies.
As a mother and grandmother, being able to protect my family is my First priority. Watching the crime around me get worse, and the criminals getting more bald now is not the time to strip us of our rights to protect ourselves. Being a police officer has got to be one of the toughest jobs in this world's climate, I can't imagine! So again now is not the time for the citizens to have rights stripped that could very likely help others in their community one day. We have family who are hunters. This is how they take care of their families, how they sustain life. Yet another huge group of the community that will be affected by this in a very negative way. This Colorado native is saddened to see the state moving in such a danger direction
As a Columbine survivor I have watched many people try to push gun laws in the name of saving and protecting innocent lives. I always ask the question how would this law have changed anything on that day or any other trajic event? The answer is almost always that it wouldn't have. I can name MANY existing laws that did not stop the deranged individuals from commiting the atrocious acts. I also always ask how will this law affect me and those that I love? That answer is almost always that it would put me at greater danger as it would strip me of my right to protect myself and those I love in the manner that best fits my needs. SB25-003 does NOTHING to stop a person from harming others but it does stop me and other law abiding citizens from making a decision on what is best for us on how to protect ourselves. This proposed gun law is unconstitutional and a direct infringment to our rights.
I have been hunting since I was 6 years old in Michigan, I also believe in self defense and our constitution. A huge part of my lif is also my daughter who I want to pass on my knowledge of firearms and training to so that she can defend herself if the unfortunate circumstance arrives of someone tryi g to harm her or her lovedones. This should be thw rightof every American born citizen just like our fourfathers intended.
Greetings and Blessings to you,
I have 3 young daughters, a wife and community that I love and protect.
There is a huge oversight in this bill, one it is very, very unconstitutional going against our most important amendment. Our 2nd amendment. “The right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall NOT be infringed.”
Why does the Democratic government want to ban semi automatic rifles that we use to protect our families and communities. About 2 percent of homicides are from semi automatic rifles, more homicides happen from fist than semi automatic rifles. Most homicides happen from pistols. So if we really want to make our country safe we should ban pistols. (Oh wait that is step number 2 in a totalitarian governments plan, first is semi automatic rifles).
Benjamin Franklin once said: "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.
The extreme danger in this is, one the government is now forcing law abiding citizens to be unarmed comparable to criminals, gangs and terrorist. By not having the ability to reload magazines against criminals, gangs and terrorist whom will have semi or fully automatic guns with the ability to change magazines regardless of what the unconstitutional law says about detachable magazines.
Secondly we have a God given right of self defense that both Jesus taught by commanding his disciples to carry swords (The same weapon used by all militaries at the time) [Comparable to semi auto rifles for modern times’’ (Not simply daggers, compared to pistols today), remember Peter cutting the ear off of the high priest in the garden of Gethsemane. Which Jesus healed immediately out of Love and Forgiveness.
Also see passage Luke 9:3 and Luke 22:36. In chapter nine, Jesus instructs the Twelve disciples, "Take nothing for the journey—no staff, no bag, no bread, no money, no extra tunic." But in chapter 22, he tells them, "But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one."
Jesus taught us to turn the other check but also taught us to be practical against evil and for good people including his disciples to be well armed.
Weather you are a Christian and Love Jesus and God or otherwise Jesus was a great teacher in all aspects of life.
I appreciate you for listening to your Brother in Christ God Bless You
Benjamin Franklin once said: "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."
I also highly suggest that we create a school security program for all U.S states for 3 or more well trained military or police active duty or retired; to protect each school wearing civilian clothes with a concealed carry, well armed with a small hidden semi auto rifle concealed to protect our children from any evil.
It is time to wake up and allow our good citizens have the right to carry guns as our constitution and law have given this right that shall not be infringed upon. Our 2nd amendment right is so important that our forefathers stated this shall not be infringed, basically a quadruple exclamation point. I do not believe there are any other rights that our fore fathers wrote with the importance of stating in addition to the right that this shall not be infringed upon. I pray you will make the right decision and to uphold our rights
One of our Founding Fathers George Mason’s quote “I ask who are the militia’’ “They consist now of the whole people, except a few public officers’’.
It’s scary to me as an American citizen that our rights can be stepped on in this way and that is exactly what bill SB25-003 is doing. When overreach gets pushed this far when does it stop? The answer is it doesn’t. Coloradans have a right to protect themselves and punishing law abiding citizens does not help them but it only helps the criminals. People who are willing to do violent acts do not care about gun laws. This bill only hurts good people.
This bill doesn't stop crime from happening. Coming from someone that used to be a criminal, this stops law abiding citizens from not just being able to protect themselves or their families. This creates a black market of untraceable guns and we all know how well that's working for Illinois, NYC, and California. Uphold the oath of actually protecting the United States Constitution instead of violating the rights of Americans. We're in a 1.3 million dollar deficit, and if Polis wants to turn that around, this bill won't help that either.
