There is not a single reason for having split lunches that couldn’t be fixed by simply having longer lunches. I can only speak for Ballard High School, but the one issue that split lunches fixes is that people who get school lunch will be able to get their food more quickly, and overall this new schedule raises way more problems than it solves. For example, since classrooms will be in use during lunch, clubs won’t be able to meet and will have to be pushed to after school, which is not possible for many club leaders. There’s also the issue of test retakes. I know at least for my geometry class, lunch is the only time we can make up or retake tests, which will no longer be possible because of the classroom being in use during lunch. Aside from that, for many students lunch is the only time time that they can relax with their friends and take a break from the stressfulness of school. I understand that this was an executive decision by the district and that individual schools didn’t have a choice in this matter, but splitting lunches makes absolutely no sense for anyone.

We spend six hours in class every day, and now we don’t even get a full hour at lunch to ourselves. Students need that time to eat without rushing, talk to friends, catch up on homework, or just take a break so we can focus better in the afternoon. Taking away the hour lunch makes the day feel even longer, and advisory doesn’t give us the same benefits that a real break does

Weekly book club meetings are one of my favorite parts of school. With the split lunches, many clubs will be stopped or broken in half. And with over 400 students in my grade, I have almost no classes with my friends. Lunch is the only time at school I see some of them. The split lunches will break apart the communities that have formed in school clubs, and I don’t think that helps anyone.

As a mother to 2 boys, gender doesn’t discriminate!! We need to help these children understand the gravity of talking to strangers online— even if they appear to be real.. even through Gaming platforms.
Kayleigh supported: Pass Hailey’s Law: "Pink Alert" and Mandated Grooming Awareness Education in Schools
Education is where change begins, absolutely every young woman should know the warning signs for grooming and abuse. As a mother myself teaching stranger danger is an obvious one but educating a teenager on these warning signs is often overlooked because violence in relationships and grooming seems rare until it’s someone you know.
Zoey supported: Pass Hailey’s Law: "Pink Alert" and Mandated Grooming Awareness Education in Schools
As a girl around the same age of Hailey, this needs to be brought up in all schools, to bring awareness to not just children but teens and adults. Hailey didn’t deserve this , no one does.

what if theres an emergency like a school shooting? i dont trust texas schools to keep me safe, especially if i wouldnt even be able to contact my family in that situation. what if a family members in the hospital? there are so many things that we need our phones to feel safer with. my mom struggles with her health severely, what if something happens to her and i cant even know until after the school day? banning our phones is inconsiderate of all these things that may be happening in students lives where theyd need to contact a parent. theyre not always a distraction
