It’s crazy how common online scams have become. I’ve had friends almost fall for fake job offers, and I’ve seen people lose money just trying to buy something online. It makes you second-guess everything—like, can you even trust what you see anymore?
Scammers are getting smarter, but the protections in place haven’t caught up. There need to be real consequences for fraud, better ways for people to report scams, and stricter rules for online sellers. This petition is pushing for exactly that, and I’m all for it. If we don’t do something now, more people are going to get hurt. It’s time to make the internet safer for everyone.
I am considering selling my home due in part to the frustration with the constant/recurring power outages. If it rains, my neighbor and I have to prepare as if a hurricane is coming and we will be low priority for restoration. However, the people across the street from us always have power. The issue is obviously EQUIPMENT related. $600 power bills in the summer are the norm. I was told because I have an inground pool…my bill is higher in the summer. Well guess what….my pool stays open year round. Make it make sense, please.
They don’t send me a physical bill or notice to pay until after it’s due, charging a late fee, and there’s no option to auto pay. I can imagine this is even more frustrating for the elderly people in this area, who may not know how to sign in online early to pay it.
Late summer of 2024 I received a bill that was over $1000. I live alone! Made two attempts to have this ERROR fixed was told they would send someone to reread the meter. The guy came out, asked me to turn all water inside off and by the time I got to the window to see him check it he was gone. Improper meter readings. Bessemer utilities continued to tell me I had a leak on my property. I had two professionals come out only to confirm what I knew, and that was that I did not have any leaks inside or on my property. I advised them that the bill had a clerical error that was obvious and still nothing was done to bring resolution to the situation. Let's not mention that my lights go out at least 5-6 within a month and this is not due to weather. I'm glad someone is trying to get help about the awful service we receive.
I pay my dad's bills. For the past 3 months his bill from Bessemer Utilities has arrived after the due date. It was due on Feb 25th and he still hasn't received the bill. This company operates like it is 1970. Utilizes a 3rd party to pay online which causes a fee. Paying by phone takes almost 5 minutes. Can't even see actual bill online. I refuse to pay until I can view an actual bill, not just meter readings or a customer service agent telling me how much is owed.
Bessemer Utilities is the most corrupt, incompetent, dishonest and unprofessional company I have ever dealt with. Personally they applied an unpaid balance to me for a home I never rented because I made a one time payment with a check. When that individual left with an unpaid balance they attached it to my name even though I was not the one holding service.
Now at my current residence I am experiencing them mailing bills after it is due. My deliveries are always on time so this is due to their negligence of not sending the bill. I honestly wish that they could just dismantle this company and replace with another provider. I know all companies have their issues but Bessemer Utilities is horrible and takes pride in treating the customers like nothing.
We moved to Hueytown from Georgia just over 6 years ago and ove never lived anywhere with a water/sewer bill so high. Typical water and sewer bill everywhere I've lived would typically be 40-70 bucks a month. Our here is at a minimum 130ish, the most recent bill which we never received in the mail (another issue with them) was $170. Nothing has changed in our usage.
They never ever send the bills out on time. It's due on the 7th, late on the 17th and IF they even send a bill at all it will show up around the 11th or 12th, sometimes much later than that. Don't get me started on the miserable attitudes of the people that work there should you need some assistance or a question answered. It's ridiculous
My husband and I lived in the Bessemer/McCalla area for 10 years and during that time we had Bessemer Utilities as our electricity and water service provider. They were absolutely terrible! Our home had two water meters - one for the house and the other for a sprinkler system. We discovered that they were billing us for usage on both...even though we did not have a sprinkler system installed in our yard. There were also numerous occasions when they made errors on our bill. After we moved they never returned our deposit, even though we were told more than once that it was in the mail. Our tenants also reported having issues with Bessemer Utilities to the point of having to go to the mayor to report their fraudulent practices. This company needs to be investigated for corruption.
I’m having problems by getting the water turn on because of a family member, never changed my father name off the bill. When they had to leave the property they wouldn’t pay the bill. I didn’t find out until I went to have the service turned on in my name. My father been deceased ever since 2009. I told them I had all the information on the persons that lived there and proof I didn’t make that bill that was 2600.00. I can’t pay this kind of money. Bessemer utilities told me that this was the ordinance. I shouldn’t be responsible for a bill some made especially when the bill that was deceased.
