We are across from San Lorenzo park and the surrounding 2 mile radius is a warzone of screaming, fighting, using, overdosing, littering and all the problems that prop 36 addresses. We watch what happens and seeing people cited who never show up, know there will be no consequences and continue to reoffend while on bail or OR. Please do your job and help instead of handcuff the police.

As a born and raised Santa Cruz resident, I can say that this city, in my lifetime, has never been so ridden with crime from dangerous drug addicts. Tax paying citizens should be heard and taken care of instead of nurturing transient criminals.

While walking back from the store, with my daughter, we walk past a man defecating along side the walking path we often take when running errands. He attempted to have a conversation with us as we walked by. I feel powerless over the safety of myself and my family.

The criminal activity in Santa Cruz county has been out of control the last decade but especially in the last 5 years. Drug use/sales, theft, property crime, public indecency and public nuisance crimes are all the norm now but what really motivated me to sign this petition is the case of Jeremy Anecito who has been arrested for felony domestic violence and false imprisonment 3 times within 6 MONTHS and once for hit and run attempted murder. Each of these arrests resulted in additional probation and ZERO JAIL TIME. This monster has never even seen the inside of a jail cell. The Santa Cruz DA and local justices should be absolutely ashamed of themselves and all removed from their positions for their pathetic “attempts” at serving justice in this case. Are they waiting for him to kill this poor woman before putting him in jail?! Her death will be their fault if he does which is only a matter of time if nothing is done as he’s made it clear he has no problem violating his probation and restraining orders.

I am dealing with the the results of the “catch and release” criminal system we have: my garage was broken into and bike was stolen. SCPD caught the thief (with help from sec cam footage) red-handed. He is a frequent felony flyer with 13 felony court cases in 12 years. Averages 5 arrests per year. Has been seen by 14 different judges. If things continue it’s only a matter of time before someone (innocent victim, the career criminal or LEO) gets injured. Or worse.
