Victories in Safe Street

I live at 11th and Ashland. The bike lanes have improved the experience of living in the neighborhood. My son is a new cyclist and wants to bike to Hogg for middle school. I feel safe when he’s cycling in a protected bike lanes. I don’t think removing the protected lanes is what the community wants.

I ride my bike throughout the city and use 11th street frequently. The current designs have kept me safe from being hit by drivers and allows me to commute safely. I believe we need more bike/pedestrian-friendly streets. John Whitmire is trying to give kickbacks to his donors by offering them lucrative contracts to the major engineering firms that have donated to his campaign. He is notorious for this, even when he was at the Texas Senate. Look at his donor sheet, and you will see who will be granted these contracts. Let's invest in safer streets for people who don't own a car or simply enjoy their local landscape.

I live on Pecore, which turns in to 11th Street, and these improvement have made our neighborhood safer. If anything, we need additional improvements along the rest of 11th street/Pecore to deter unsafe/speeding drivers and ensure neighborhood and pedestrian safety, not less.

Use to live just off 11th and immediately noticed the difference in safer walking and biking after the diet was finished. Now I live in Timbergrove and drive down 11th a lot, even during peak times, and haven’t noticed that it takes longer. 11th and the Heights are safer for all thanks to this project.

These bike infrastructures are essential for taking my kid to school

We use 11th street weekly to go to the grocery store, Via bicycle. It is so much safer now with the protected cycling route. it does slow traffic but the back ups are mostly during rush hour. During regular hours, 11th street flows normally. Please keep the bike lanes on 11th

We moved into a home near 11th St and Studewood in 2022. We chose to move from the suburbs into the Heights because we wanted to live in a walkable, bikable community with access to shops, restaurants and amenities near our home. We walk and bike along 11th Street frequently as we explore the neighborhood businesses and meet neighbors. Instead I would request that the bike lane be extended the last two blocks of 11th from Shepherd to TC Jester to provide bayou trail access. The bayou trails are nice, but will be closed in multiple spots for I-10 and I-45 construction indefinitely. They are also of limited value without routes through the community that provide a way to safely reach them. The reduced lanes slow traffic to a safe speed with minimal impact on vehicular commute times. Please do not alter the 11th Street bike lanes. Please preserve the safer conditions they provide to everyone - bikers, walkers and drivers alike.
