Our town Lax Club has had two of the MSU Women's Team players help us the past couple of years and I know how dedicated they are to their sport and how hard they have worked and contributed to the MSU program. They are outstanding young women and to have Lacrosse taken away from them without what I feel is a justified reason and in such a condensed timeline is just not right. Please MSU try to work out a solution that will keep both the men's and women's programs in place.
As a strong supporter of this petition, I stand in solidarity with the 70 student-athletes who have been profoundly affected by the sudden and unjust discontinuation of the men’s and women’s lacrosse teams. This decision not only disregards the countless hours of dedication and effort these athletes have poured into their sport but also undermines the critical role athletics play in fostering leadership, resilience, and personal growth within a collegiate community.
Lacrosse is far more than just a sport—it is a foundation for personal development, a channel for expressing passion, and a bridge to future opportunities. The abrupt and poorly communicated nature of this decision has robbed these students of their chance to represent their school, pursue their athletic aspirations, and capitalize on the opportunities they have worked tirelessly to achieve.
I strongly urge the administration to reconsider this decision and restore these programs. To do so would not only honor the dedication and contributions of these athletes but also uphold the values of our institution by recognizing the importance of extracurricular engagement in shaping well-rounded, successful individuals. Let us fight for the reinstatement of these programs and ensure that the voices and efforts of our student-athletes are respected.
“With a look to the future and in response to growing trends in college sports, the University will transition its men's and women's lacrosse programs to club status.” - MSU Athletics
Lacrosse is the fastest growing sport in America…please share the “trends” that you are referring to, and the information that is backing your decision.
I’ve never met an athlete that has spent years competing and perfecting their craft in hopes of playing flag football in college - however I know hundreds of lacrosse athletes who have done just that.
That lack of disrespect is astounding. My heart breaks for these athletes and coaches!
They say grow the game of lacrosse and it seems to get bigger and bigger then they do something like this. They take away the sport all these men and woman worked so hard for to play at the college level and after everything they do this. It’s not right and not fair and something needs to be done and I hope the Montclair State Lacrosse program will be reinstated. Shame on you Montclair State do the right thing and bring back the sport that everyone loves and that these men and woman worked so hard for they didn’t work this for nothing.
As a student athlete myself I feel for what these athletes are going through and can’t begin to imagine if the sport that I loved and was apart of my identity was taken away. This athletes dedicate themselves to representing their university and bringing more students in through recruiting and the thanks they are given is by removing their ability to be NCAA athletes. Do better Montclair State.
These athletes have spent years and countless hours working hard to compete at the highest level possible for them. Being an NCAA athlete is a great achievement and provides a tremendous sense of pride for these student athletes. To lower them down to a club program is taking away that achievement, pride, and competitiveness. Competition at the highest level breads quality successful leaders of the future. Job recruiters look for NCAA athletes. Montclair has just taken that away from these students. My son is on the men's team and had offers to play at other colleges. We thought Montclair was committed to growing the program. My son made a commitment to Montclair partially because of the Lacrosse program. We thought Montclair made an honest commitment to him.
One of my friends participates in LaCrosse at this school and she and the others deserve more than an abrupt change like this. Playing a sport and dedicating yourself to it is a very special thing and taking that away with no warning or remorse is awful.
