Rabbits are beloved pets and wildlife animals, but they face various challenges and issues that are highlighted in petitions on Change.org. One prevalent theme in these petitions is the call for better protection of rabbits from abuse, neglect, and exploitation. Petitions often advocate for stronger animal welfare laws and regulations to safeguard the well-being of rabbits. Additionally, there are petitions focused on ending the sale of rabbits in pet stores to prevent impulse purchases and support adoption from shelters instead.
A notable petition with significant traction calls for a ban on rabbit fur farming, emphasizing the cruelty involved in this industry and urging for ethical treatment of these animals. Another petition urges authorities to crack down on illegal rabbit hunting and promote responsible pet ownership to reduce the abandonment of domestic rabbits.
Join the movement by exploring the petitions on rabbit welfare and standing up for these vulnerable animals. Your support can make a difference in ensuring a better future for rabbits everywhere.
I moved to White Lake from a city in Minnesota with a population of more than 300,000 and small city lot sizes. Chickens were allowed and common. I was absolutely shocked to find the lot size requirement in White Lake, a place that still feels rural despite its development and proximity to larger cities. Chickens are a breeze to care for and are an educational experience not only for children but also for adults. Too many people have become severely disconnected from where their food comes from and silly regulations like this one don't help. We need to give power back to people. There are so many benefits to collecting your own eggs, from knowing what the hens are being fed to the environmental impact of not shipping eggs long distances and keeping them cool. It's a no-brainer... residents of White Lake should be allowed to have hens, ducks, and rabbits regardless of their lot size.
I am hoping you will consider amending the poultry ordinance here in white Lake. I have 2 young girls, 5 and 7 at home. I would love for them to wake up in the morning and be excited to run outside and see our chickens. I think it is a great teaching opportunity about responsibility and animal care. More importantly being able to show them where our food is coming from. Chickens help control pest problems and are natural fertilizers which greatly reduces the need to use chemicals. I’m
Working with animal rescues gives us valuable insight on the animal population problems in various communities. Losing a rescue resource is not only a financial toll on animal services in each community, but it's also a toll on the community itself and those animals who'll have nowhere to go, but, a county shelter and quickly into a black plastic bag. We have so many stray loose rabbits here because our City and state are not acting swiftly and supporting rescue efforts. . . Don't make the same mistake California has.
I have adopted 3 bunnies from BunnyLu. All of them were extremely well taking care of there. The rescue is clean, and you can tell a lot of time is put into taking proper care of all the bunnies. Without this rescue I can't imagine where rabbits would go when they needed to be taken in. Most shelters don't take small or exotic animals in this area of Virginia. All 3 of my bunnies were well behind litter trained and used to weekly grooming/nail trims. You wouldn't well adjust rabbits in a shelter setting or from most breeders. She is doing great things for these bunnies.
Devi, Vega (both pictured in petition picture...lol) and Bennie say thanks for saving our lives!
I adopted my sweet rabbit from BunnyLu. There is no other shelter like this in Virginia that takes such good care of bunnies, advocates for them, and gives them space and love. It is extremely important to keep this shelter open!
I adopted my beloved rabbit from Bunny Lu, she has absolutely changed my life. Rabbits are special creatures and they don’t do well in a normal shelter. A rescue like Bunny Lu saves hundreds of bunnies, not to mention it’s one of the only ones in this area.
I have adopted bunnies from Bunny Lu. Mary Ellen is the best bunny rescue mom that treats every bunny as their own. Please don't close down Bunny Lu! Bunnies are the most abandoned pet in the country and Bunny Lu is there for them. So again PLease Do Not Close Down Bunny Lu.
My daughter has adopted one of the bunnies from this shelter. The work they are doing is amazing. City/county leaders - please work with this amazing rescue to help sustain this effort which is a benefit to not just the rabbits they save but also the surrounding community where community members can find and bond with these rescued rabbits.
It’s heartbreaking to see a successful and compassionate bunny shelter facing closure despite its years of dedicated service to neglected and abandoned rabbits. this shelter has not only provided crucial care, but has also facilitated responsible adoption, ensuring these sensitive animals find safe, loving homes. Instead of shutting them down, we should be supporting and expanding their efforts. preventing their work means denying these rabbits the care They desperately need. Please stand with them and be a protector of good, not a barrier to it.
