We need to do a better job at screening and admitting people entering seminaries. This is not being done. We do more psychological testing for those entering law enforcement and the military then we do ministers. The Church also needs to re-examine the role of celibacy to its mission. While some may feel the call to celibacy others do not. If celibacy is a Gift from the Holy Spirit then it should be freely accepted. Not institutionally mandated and enforced. There is a lot to do in this area for all churches and we are already way past midnight. Please pray for the survivors and their families who are forever harmed. And let's pray for all religious who continue to carry the message of God's Love and Forgiveness without hidden personal agendas.

Religious leaders are trusted figures in communities all over the world, and when they misuse that power to exploit vulnerable individuals, the damage is profound and widespread. Here is why it's such a critical issue that demands action:
-Abuse of power. Clergy members hold immense power in religious communities. Their role as moral and spiritual guides makes their betrayal even more harmful. This power dynamic creates a barrier that prevents victim's from coming forward, and often leads to years of suffering in silence.
-Global reach. Religious institutions, especially the Catholic church, have a presence in nearly every country. The scale of the problem is not confined to one region: it spans continents, cultures, and religions, affecting millions of people worldwide.
-Cover ups. In many cases, institutions have been complicit in covering abuse, prioritizing their reputation over the safety and well-being of victm's. This lack of accountability allows the cycle of abuse to continue, sometimes for decades, leaving victm's without justice.
Cultural silence: In many societies, religious figures are revered, and speaking out against them can be seen as sacreligious or disrespectful. This creates an enviorment where abuse can thrive unnoticed, and victm's are silenced out of fear and shame.
We cannot allow this to continue. The global scale of this issue means that change must happen worldwide. It's time for religious institutions to be held accountable, for victms to recieve justice, and for the cycle of abuse to be stopped once and for all. I signed this petition to demand action and help ensure those who abuse their power face consequences, no matter who they are.

Actually, I have lost my life and at 58 years of age, I am receiving trauma counseling for dissociative, complex PTSD. Not only was I sexually, physically, and emotionally abused by priests, so was my older brother. The abuse lasted for years and involved several priests. The result was a biological family destroyed. Long story short, mother was in denial, father was silent, younger brother was too young to help. Requests for help were met with "don't make up stories, you'll ruin our image, it's a sin to lie, you'll go to Hell for talking like that, etc from family, teachers (which included nuns) a principal, police, and priests who I believed cared. Clergy used fear, power, violence, praise, and gifts to control/abuse us.
I don't know if I will truly ever be whole, but I am trying.
My heart goes out to all of those who continue to live in silence, fear, and shame. I know this journey and speak from my heart. Please know, it's never too late to start working toward learning who you really are. Healing may not be 100 % but to reduce fear and shame, even a little bit, is worth it.
May our next Pope believe in ZERO TOLERANCE as I have learned that some of my religious leaders were aware of some of the priests my brother and I were abused by and did nothing but relocate them to other parishes with schools. It sickens me. Let's join together to protect ALL.
