Having absolutely no access to phones during an 8hour period of the day away from home is ridiculous. Staying in the loop when it comes to extracurricular activities as well as work and home life are all important. Being unable to do that whatsoever and being punished for doing so during non-instructional time is so unethical. And for student safety reasons.

Having absolutely no access to phones during an eight-hour school day is unreasonable. Staying connected with extracurricular activities, work, and home life is important for students, especially when balancing these responsibilities. Being completely cut off and punished for using phones during non-instructional time is unfair and unnecessary. Additionally, from a safety perspective, what if a student is experiencing an emergency or needs to contact someone immediately? Denying students access to their phones in these situations is not only unethical but could also put them at risk.

What if somone is having a medical emergency and they can’t notify there parents and are far from the school nurse and can’t notice the teacher or an adult example there in the bathroom phones are important because they can save a person or even there own life .

I think we should be allowed to use phone during non instructional hours such as class switching (in halls), and during lunch. Some students need there phone throughout the day to check and see if they have practice or even figuring out how they will get home. I think that the phone policy is too over powering as some teachers will directly take the phone off your person (out your pocket) if they see you were on it. Think about it how is a student using their phone during lunch or in halls effecting their learning not in anyway that is effecting them. If I have air pods in my ears in the hall how are you gonna take my air pods when im just listening to music and minding my business? That makes no sense and is over the top. Also I have seen people get smart watches taken for just looking at the time. How in anyway is a student effected by checking the time.

I often get panic attacks and not having access to my phone is the worst. Sometimes I need to text my parents to calm me down or bring me home and I can’t. Going to the school nurse doesn’t help, because they want me to just “cope” but nothing helps when you’re literally in the middle of a PANIC ATTACK. Also, I’m really lonely and have awful social anxiety and have a hard time making friends. Having my phone during lunch is very helpful since it gives me something to do and makes me feel less awkward sitting alone.

I suffer from low iron and low blood pressure and the nurses at my school have told me they won’t call my parents unless I pass out because I went to the clinic so often. Because of this, I’ve always texted my mom to come get me anytime I feel it getting bad so that I can go home and take my medicine and lay down for a bit. Without my phone, I will probably have to beg the nurses to let me go home and that’s just not right. My school knows the nurses do this and they said it’s fine since my dad approved this (he works all the time) but my mom (the one who always picks me up) didn’t. Overall, we should be able to have our phones so that we can contact our parents when we have personal emergencies. Could I go to the office? Sure, but the office would tell me to go to the clinic so that wouldn’t work.

I had to leave school early for an appointment, yet I did not know until almost the last minute because my family couldn’t text me because I could not use my phone. I went to the office to wait on my ride and my ride was there for almost ten minutes texting me that they were there. But of course, I couldn’t check. They had to call my mom so she could call the office to tell me to leave. My ride and parents were upset because of this phone policy; I could have made them wait less and I could have been more aware of this appointment if I could contact my family with my phone. It would have been so much easier if I could just use my phone to communicate with my family. Plus, no phones in lunch is just stupid. It is not ruining our learning, so why is it banned? If it’s to make people socialize more, that’s just dumb. Someone I know doesn’t talk to us at our table and just plays on their phone. Now, he doesn’t talk to us and just puts his head down. This is doing nothing to help socializing. CCPS, please fix this phone ban.

Recently, I experienced my first ocular migraine. I was in class, so I couldn’t pull out my phone to tell my mother. The whole thing that ocular migraines do, is it messes up your vision. I didn’t know what was happening, and I was freaking out. I wanted to text my parents, because if I did, I would’ve found out what I was experiencing and that my parents know exactly how to deal with it. I spent last block just sitting, with my eyes closed, panicking. If I was able to use my phone, I wouldn’t have been panicking and could’ve at least known how to solve it. I know from here on out what do to. But what if I needed to tell my parents? To notify them what’s going on? I won’t be able to do without my phone.

This will be helpful, I am a Parkway student and I struggle with anxiety and panic attacks, and texting my mom or family or just people I trust helps.
