Being somone who frequently takes trips to the hospital and have spent some time in ICU's staffing matters Because of staffing shortages I have been left with adequate pain management after thoracic surgery. Left on a commode for over an hr. Due to them having an emergency and not enough staff to deal with another person on floor crashing and the other patients the patient to staff ratio is way off most of the time wich leads to lack of care . Mistakes , and possible complications or death of a patient . Patients deserve better .. staff deserve better and they will burn out . They will lose there spark there compassion there empathy and quit turn over will be a major problem . Would you want your family in this type of care setting ?? Of course not. But since you make the call your family would be put first you'd make sure of it over other patients ,not fair every patient should have the same treatment you'd give to your family the staff deserve support and proper staffing ratio so they can treat every patient with the same care you'd want for your loved ones do better ..

I’m in Ohio and spouses cannot be paid. I have been a caregiver full time for my husband for 5 years and that needs to be changed here as well. I fought the state of Ohio with an attorney and lost. Parents that care for Children are the only paid caregivers here. With so many incompetent nursing staff, he could have died a few times. I will continue to fight to have all caregivers paid. So much needs to change on the medical end of things!! I’m so very sorry this happened and I hope you get to be a voice for change in Florida!

No parent should have to leave their child’s side in their time of need

As a Mom of a medically fragile child myself, putting our children’s lives in the hands of nurses who are inexperienced, uneducated, and lying about it, should NEVER be the only option. As parents of children like Tad, we go through intense training to be able to take care of our children. We are highly educated and trained. Nobody knows their child like their parents. Parents should absolutely have the opportunity be paid caregivers, especially since many of us were forced to leave our jobs due to frequent hospitalizations, illnesses, appointments, and lack of competent nursing.
