Based off of the chaos I see daily at this intersection, I don’t feel safe letting my daughters walk to school alone at age 6 and 8 years old and we live 2 blocks away. I’ve even feared for my own safety as an adult who is much taller and more visible than a child, crossing the street. Changes need to be made for the sake of our children and our community.
As a parent, I'm terrified of the 6th & 13th intersection. Visibility is awful, cars block the crosswalk, it's a disaster waiting to happen. Let's make it safer for our kids!
I would love to see the city address the problems of this intersection. Even during low traffic times, I struggle with visibility of cross-traffic. It's obviously the worse during peak hours of school drop-off and pick-up. Not being able to see cross traffic requires you to pull forward completely into the crosswalk just to see, which creates a hazard for the little children walking to and from school. The crossing guards do as good of a job as they can do, but the lack of visibility and people stopping the middle of the intersection is what makes this intersection such a nightmare.
I live on a road off of Long Meadow Rd. It is very difficult to get out of my road onto Long Meadow Rd due to so much traffic. I sit waiting sometimes 10 mins. And even then I have to race to get out between cars which is risky in itself! I have lived in this residence over 18 years and traffic has become increasingly worse.
We live in a development off of Longmeadow Rd. We should be able to use Halifax Drive as the road to exit our development (Fountainhead Manor) but we can not due to safety issues pulling out onto Longmeadow Road. In order to exit our neighborhood somewhat safely, we must drive to Pulaski Drive or Cambridge Drive. Please put a light at Halifax and Longmeadow. Our population has grown so much in the 20 years that we have lived in Fountainhead Manor. It is not safe for ANYONE to pull out of Halifax Drive onto Longmeadow. It makes me nervous anytime I see a car sitting at that stop sign.
Earlier this year, we were devastated when our beloved dog unfortunately passed away after a hit and run on Washington Lane involving a speeding vehicle. We often hear cars speeding by on Washington, especially at night around the curve and 4 way stop by the Rydal train station. We are very concerned for those in the area - from children, pets, and neighbors to commuters and visitors who walk from the train station up Washington Lane towards Jenkintown.
