The land near La Mariposa creates an opportunity for our family to explore nature and observe wildlife and an amazing amount of birds. We are learning about nature and the ponds washes in this area provide unique opportunities to explore nature.
A year ago I signed up for the gym at La Mariposa and the manager told me of their plans to expand the resort with casitas to support their event venue space in hopes of making it one of Tucson’s premier wedding destinations for guests to stay during events. While that may be an exciting business opportunity for the La Mariposa owners, it will shake up our community and those neighbors living next door in a negative way. My heart sank and later canceled my membership. Some of the main charms of the East Side are the estate ranches and the collective appreciation for co-existing with the natural environment. Creating this development will greatly impact this RARE riparian area of Tucson.
My wife and I built our house in the middle of the proposed Casitas construction. AT the time we purchased the land, we were never told about the proposed development. We love the area and the quiet, secluded setting among hundreds of mesquite trees. We strongly oppose the proposed construction as it would impact us negatively. We are concerned about the increased potential flooding, increased traffic to the already crowded roads and the disruption to the landscape and its wildlife. In addition, we are disgusted with the City of Tucson and their willingness to disregard and violate a contractual agreement signed with the BCNA to preserve the area in exchange for annexation. We strongly oppose the proposed rezoning of our neighborhood.
I am a renter in a condominium very near here, I have lived in this area close to 20 years, I am a huge advocate of open space and protecting these areas
Please STOP the rezoning of La Mariposa!!
This area is filled with wildlife. I have seen young red tail hawks, ducks, herons, red winged blackbirds, hummingbirds, quail, roadrunners, countless wildlife.
Even if you don’t care about the wildlife, the traffic on Houghton is terrible.
Now, when leaving La Mariposa, traffic on Houghton has increased substantially due to all the new developments. Cars are lined up all the way from Tanque Verde to the entrance of the La Mariposa in the morning.
We need to protect the open space. We don’t want Tucson to become Phoenix with wall to wall development and sprawl.
I understand the need for more housing but there is an abundance of vacant buildings and malls that could be used for more dense housing projects.
Have you considered tax incentives for developers to create more housing using spaces we already have?
Please don’t allow developers to rip out more of desert that is on the corridor to our National Parks. Leave some space for us to enjoy. It’s better for the animals but also for us too!
