Enforcing something like thas effects beyond the surface level. Many financially struggling rely on cheap motorcycle transport, they simply cannot afford all the gear. What you wear should always remain a personal choice.
There are too many young people without the correct and safety gear on. They think they are untouchable. I have also witnessed people on a bike with shorts and sliders on! If it's not enforced then on them be it. Parents of young riders should be helping to make sure they have the correct gear. Talk to them educate themselves and then encourage their kids,go with them to look at gear. The nonsense about cost is errelevant. They are good second hand clothing at reasonable prices. It amazes me how youngsters can afford cars I couldn't afford, and the insurance but when it comes to biking suddenly it's all too expensive? I agree it may be a cheap mode of transport for some but life is priceless and if it means you have to save for all the gear that keeps you safe then so be it. I have to also say it's not only the young I have seen older people riding without the gear on. Shame on you you should be setting an example. A TV campaign could help bring it into conversation to new potential riders. I've seen too many bikers killed or hurt badly it won't help in some situations but it might give you a chance.
As a new motorcycle rider, I often times especially as its getting warmer feel like wearing less than full gear and I dont because I know that if/when i end up in a collision the gear im wearing might save my life and I believe that it is imperative for as many riders as possible to take the preventative measures like wearing gear all the time.
I ride a motorbike and the number of people I see not wearing the correct gear scares me. Sometimes not even gloves. Your hands are the first thing you put down when you fall over!
I'm not looking for an overbearing ruling on this, but I am hoping that we can put some sensible measure in place to reduce injury and death. I'm interested to see how this does.
