This median continues to create a dangerous situation for both sides of traffic. I have anxiety every time I try to make this forced u-turn. Please remove the median to create a safer situation for all parties involved!
No parent should have to get the call that their child has been hit by a car on one of the biggest foot traffic streets on their college campus. Please do everything you can to make it so not another parent has to get that call. Thank you.
As a University of Delaware senior who has witnessed the effects of not having precautions for pedestrians around campus first hand, I think it is finally time to make a change. Students should not be afraid to walk around and enjoy campus
Hi, I'm a student at UD, and this is my first year here. Since arriving last fall, I've already experienced the heartbreaking loss of two fellow students on Main Street, both taken far too soon by speeding vehicles. It’s devastating, and it’s unacceptable. Every day, countless students cross that street on their way to class, getting something to eat, or going home. We deserve to feel safe in our own community. I don't want preventable deaths to become a normal part of life here at UD. Something has to change before we lose anyone else.
I’m a UD student and this many on or near campus fatalities is wild. It’s like something is missing. Middletown, DE is where I call home and we have speed bumps paved on our neighborhood road because of people speeding and so many children in the neighborhood. Why can’t Newark do the same with Main Street considering that Main St is always bustling with UD students like me? If deldot can do it in my neighborhood in Middletown, so can Newark and Deldot with Main Street. We need more safety measures to prevent more incidents like what happened today (4-29-2025) from happening.
Emori G , My Daughter goes to University of Delaware I just got off the phone with her just right before this happened she said mom I have to go . She just left Main Street having ice cream with her friends that could have been her . Thank God 🙌🏼🙌🏼 my prayers go out to the person whom passed . They need to control main st . They need to do something lights slow people down .
I was walking in the exact spot 15 minutes prior. It easily could have been me or any of us. Also, it is absurd that sidewalks are allowed to be closed during the school year, forcing students to walk in the street where people speed on a regular basis. People rev their engines and easily go over 40 mph on that road. I have witnessed many "almost" accidents in my time here. If speed bumps are added, criminals won't think of Main Street as an escape route to speed down. Also, all the regular folks speeding down that road daily will need to slow down.
Too many people are killed along main street due to speeding and illegal driving despite the amount of road signs and traffic lights and pedestrians alone. If that won't stop people we can only hope speed bumps will. I expect the transformation of main street will take long which may account to issues with transportation but this is an immediate issue that can be worked on bit by bit. Many people including my family have been impacted by the reckless driving of main street, just last week my girlfriend and I watched someone come down a 1 lane street and drive on the curb to continue going down that lane rather than turning around by Newark Highschool. This is a dire issue and our streets need to be fixed as soon as possible.
This road has been the scene of a plethora of student fatalities within the past few years. When I was a student here I was constantly afraid of being hit going to and from campus. There need to be more safety measures included here with the amount of people in the area. There's so much construction going on in Newark, why can't a few speed bumps be added?
I’ve lived five minutes away from the crash site my whole life. My brother has lived on UD’s campus for three years now. My family and friends do too or are constantly walking around that site. This is the second incident in one year. This violence needs to end!!!
