Several of my family members were born there. That hospital has supported our community and our military members for their behavioral health needs. My wife was one of the last to leave as she worked there when the flood happened. Would hate to see this building leave our community
This hospital has very sentimental memories for our family. Preserving it would mean so much to me and my family. Love how the prayers are said over the intercoms.
Thank you for doing this! I hope this works out for all involved! Never doubt yourself because you are young. The news mentioned the Nor wood group, which I believe is also composed of Colorado Springs natives. They seem to be a little bit more responsible and respectful of the city than other developers so very nice to see in the article. I hope you can help partner with them in some way.
I think the other thing forgotten about the impact the hospital had was the community impact it had. Many of us were born or cared for there. That surrounding area is such a run down, beautiful area of Colorado Springs with many unique homes and shops etc that have just disappeared and need some TLC. It would be nice to see St. Francis rejuvenated not just itself, but for the benefit to the entire surrounding communities. It would be amazing to see the printers home and this revitalized. Good luck!!!
I'm a native Coloradan and I don't know how many times they tore down beautiful old historic buildings but it's always upsetting. Not just for me but for several people. America has history but if someone from a foreign land came here they would never know any of it because too much of it has been torn down. I say keep these beautiful old historic buildings. Those old buildings were made sturdy and made to last!
My younger brother was born there and throughout the years myself and my friends and family members had been treated for one thing or another. I have also lost a few of my people in the hospice they had. It's such a beautiful place and very special to me and many other people in our community. Too much has been taken away from our city lately and so many ugly structures have gone up and are still being built. We need to save our beautiful old buildings and houses for they are a big part of who we are and how we maintain ourselves.
My grandmother Cheryl Breckner wife of Maj Gen William J Breckner Jr. aka Bud Breckner passed in 2007. We raised Hundreds of thousands of dollars for this hospital and donated it in her name. There was a ceremony and a her name was written on the wall. That was symbolism for her memorial we were told we could go and sit in there anytime! Haven't been able to since it was shut down. No information wasn't able to retrieve her plack with her name on it! Her memorial just gone....
I was born at St Francis October 16 1941. So many of the historical sites have been demolished it is time we try to preserve the history of Colorado Springs for future generations.
I moved into an historic home(1899) in this area 15 years ago. This beautiful hospital caught my eye. Ever since then I have noticed the fire department respond and someone spraying graffiti over the front door. This upsets and saddens me very much. Everyone, no exceptions, needs to respect our history not destroy it. They need to find a small team of history inspired women/men to go room to room and document all historical items . Then renovate the majority of the hospital into a museum to preserve its significant history to our city.
