Someone I know and care about loves her daughter who will, once again be in survival mode - trying to stay warm and safe (and ALIVE!) on the streets again. This housing assistance program must get reinstated, stat! People are trying to turn their lives around... think about that while you are warm and protected in your home tonight and when you are throwing your half eaten dinner in the garbage.
Debra a soutenu : Reinstate Funding for Housing Assistance Programs for the HomelessI'm a part of this program and it has been really really hard to understand what type of program I'm actually in... It's rare that anyone speaks to their caseworker if they get one, we were promised housing and a steady place to live until we can get our IDs birth certificates and socials together but now we have less than one day to get out of the hotel that is a shelter, no one was given too much warning except for maybe 5 days ago then posting telling us that our time is up here and it's time to get out come Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. they had an option to put their dog in the pound and go to a homeless shelter on the west side, we're on the east side right now, and they could not be in the same room as their spouse everything will be separate and it'd be scary. Or they could wait until Thursday at 10:00 a.m. and make sure everything in their room that they have acquired or have brought with them is packed up and out of there by 10:00 a.m. or they have to leave it behind. Some of us did get housing but that was only from the group from last year, I am one of the lucky few but I am still waiting on the answer if my landlord has signed off on the paperwork and my move-in date is the 7th I have heard nothing and I am nervous as well. This has been such a scattered confusing time for every single homeless individual that has been here in this program. The staff did their best with what they knew and our top guy Andre has been absolutely amazing and always had our back but there has been a lot of chaos for the past year and a half here. Besides the awful living conditions which we are still very grateful to have coming from nothing outside living in the woods cockroaches don't seem so bad when it's freezing out. Honestly I'm so grateful to still have been able to be here this whole entire year than to hopefully be getting my place on the 7th if that's happening, but I feel much sorrow for all the other people that are in the program that have to leave to the cold tomorrow or that we're separated from their pet or spouse and were sent to the west side. I hope people take the time to really dig into this more and get more information on it because what I'm saying is really just the tip. Please take the time to really read what's happened, these people are my friends and some of them are like family and to think that they have to be cold another day breaks my heart. Help us, they need you. We need you.
Katrina a soutenu : Reinstate Funding for Housing Assistance Programs for the HomelessI am currently one of many that is at risk of losing everything once again, and it is the worse feeling in the world. How can we change our situation when no one cares enough to give us any kind of fair chance? I wish I could do so much for so many people, but I can't which just makes me more depressed because no one should have to endure some of the things I have experienced this last year and a half. Please help us to help ourselves because not everyone likes living on the streets!
