My daughter recently traveled with the Catawba Teen Center to Tennessee. Throughout the entire night, I was on the phone with her as she was too scared to go to sleep due to relentless bullying. Despite informing the counselors of the situation, nothing was done. In an attempt to make things better, they bought her brand new clothes. Yet, their actions only amplified the problem, as both the staff and other kids began treating her with increased hostility, ostracizing her from almost all activities.

When the trip concluded, I was shocked to find DSS at my doorstep. The teen center had reported that they had to buy my daughter new clothes, despite us having already provided for her needs. This false narrative only deepened the trauma that she was already enduring.

This alarming series of events highlights a dangerous culture of bullying and retaliation within the Catawba Nation Teen Center, which not only goes unchecked but seems to be perpetuated by the very structure meant to protect our children.

It is imperative that a formal tribal investigation be launched. This investigation can uncover the truth and hold those responsible accountable. Furthermore, it can ensure that protective measures are put in place to safeguard all teens. With the power to reform or suspend the center's operations, we can create a safer, more supportive environment free of fear and retaliation.

We cannot allow this toxic culture to continue. Our children deserve a safe haven, a place where they can thrive and grow without fear of bullying. Stand with us to demand justice and reform. Protect our teens from further harm at the Catawba Teen Center.
