Victories in Habitat Loss

Biodiversity is key to the future of this planet and natural march land areas like the Minster marshes form a rare and vital environment for many species. Whilst not against green energy there must be other places the pipe line can be located that will not have such a devastating impact

If the Kent Sealink project is given the go-ahead then, in my opinion, it will be environmental vandalism. These wetlands and marshes need to be protected from industrial development especially one of this scale. It will have a devastating impact on a designated nature reserve and vital sanctuary for wildlife including various rare species that are (or supposed to be) protected, and includes a seal colony, numerous species of birds, reptiles, amphibians, brown hares and water voles, who all depend on this space. Also, to be considered is the disruption to local people and traffic, the destruction of farmland, potential damage to sites of archeological and historic interest, increased risk of flooding and the highly likely potential of noise and congestion from heavy construction vehicles, light, air and water pollution, damage to our roads and loss of local recreational facilities and businesses.

In Thanet we are surrounded by construction sites building new homes - the allocated UK government quotas are ridiculously high and the towns were not built to cope with the required infrastructure. To add insult to injury this proposed project will decimate wildlife and beautiful natural habitats for birds and animals as well as blighting idyllic scenery. Ordinary people’s voices are not being listened to by this government and it’s hard to believe they fly the Labour banner.

“Green” energy projects should not be irreversibly destroying intact native ecosystems. Surely this flies in the face of the supposed “clean and environmentally friendly” these projects purport to be. Your energy may be renewable but the environment you are destroying is not. The proposed site for the new Borumba Pumped Hydro is a unique and irreplaceable ecosystem that cannot be replaced once it is gone. Pumped hydro projects should use already disturbed sites with existing voids such as mine pits from old mines or quarries for these projects and not destroying pristine native habitats, further contributing to habitat loss and species extinction, among others. Queensland Hydro should be ashamed. Once it’s gone, it’s gone!
Ashley supported: Protect the Mary River Catchment from the Queensland Pumped Hydro Project
These never-ending developments bring nothing but destruction to our nature and wildlife and are ruining our mental and physical health. Pollution is rising rapidly. We are already the poorest in nature country in Europe and the dirtiest one at that as it is, more developments benefit no one but construction companies involved in them and those who cell them. Long-term damage will have effect on all of us!
Daria supported: Reject the Industrial Estate on Burton Wold
I do not understand how anyone could think the current roads could take the additional burden. The traffic through Finedon is already beyond believable. We all need to protect our green spaces which are becoming smaller by the week in this area.
Emily supported: Reject the Industrial Estate on Burton Wold
There appears to be several existing Industrial estates/parks in the A14 area near to Burton Latimer and Kettering areas. Improving their quality, road surfaces and traffic flows should be prioritised over starting new developments on green land. Having lived in the area for 10 years the traffic volumes and flows are a concern to residents who have made this area there home.
