It has always been legal to access waterways from public roadways/bridges it would in turn deny tons of fisherman and hunters from access these great bodies of water to enjoy the outdoors. Bills like this will ruin the outdoors for generations and deny the youth the experience of getting out on the water and fishing these creeks that we have fished, and hunted for years. This is not something that needs to be passed think of the younger generations that this will effect
Been fishing my whole life. It’s kept me out of trouble and off the streets when friends were doing the opposite. The right to fish any section of banks on public water ways is essential to outdoorsmen and to being an American in general.
I use public right of ways to launch my canoe to go fishing. If I can't access rivers, what's the point of a fishing license? Public right of ways are PUBLIC.
What was the impetus for this? Some rich guy doesn't like watching canoes and kayaks float down "his" river?
Stop this nonsense now.
Not only is this an attack on the general public threatening some of our last pristine public resources but it's a direct attack on waterfowl hunters! This is all about certain land owners who think they own public water that hate the fact the public can paddle our beautiful creeks and rivers and have access to some of the best waterfowl hunting around. They would love it if a small few could have that all to them selves. But if the waterfowl hunters lose that right... everyone loses that same right! Let's keep our public waters public for everyone to enjoy!
As an avid paddler and outdoorsman, this bill is extremely troubling to me. I believe some of our greatest national treasures are our public rivers, lakes, and marshes. Undesignated, yet legal, boating access points have been used to launch watercraft for generations. Many long stretches, and in some cases, entire rivers currently have no public areas designated for boating access. This bill would cut off legal access to hundreds, if not thousands of miles of public trust waters in the state of NC, and set a dangerous precedent for the rest of our country.
Public access to all of our North Carolina resources is vital to help raise a new generation of stewards to protect our ecosystems! Access must remain open to these places!
I come from a family of generations of living and thriving on the rivers of North Carolina and Tennessee, the Nolichucky to be exact. My grandfather’s family was pushed out of Bakersville, North Carolina due to being Cherokee in 1921. To walk all the way down to the South Central community, by the river to settle there. I am an outdoor enthusiast, like many in my family, down to my 3 year old granddaughter. Will she never get to experience the pride and love that has been handed down through our ancestors? Will she never get to see the beauty and Magnificent scenery of coming thru the Nolichucky gorge that my ancestors taught? Will she never get to know how her ancestors loved that river? Will she never experience the wild and scenic of our land, mountains and river? It is so heartbreaking to think that as well will be taken away from us! Our rights to public lands has been infringed upon us for far too long! We, the people have every right to stand and let our voices, our hearts be heard! Our water ways have been fought for for so long, our way of life, our way to relax and unwind from the stressors of life and our ability to get into nature on water! I implore you not to take even more rights away from us! It is the love, desire and pull of our souls to be on that river, a place where our ancestors instilled in us that man may take our land but we still have our river! This is absolutely soul crushing to have this as well taken from us! Please, do not take away one of the last and best parts of our lives! Thank you for reading this, and I pray that my love for this river, land and mountains may touch upon your hearts to preserve what small amount of the love and life my ancestors placed inside of me and my generations have!
From the mountains to the sound to the ocean, I have gladly visited NC to spend my $$, time, and enjoyment on fishing this beautiful state and it can only happen with plentiful public access. I oppose NC Senate Bill 220 Section 4
