The library is a resource for ALL Columbia County residents and has vital programs for young children, home school groups, and adults. Leaving the GA library system will be disastrous for the public.

Libraries are vital to communities as centers of knowledge, learning, and inclusion. They provide free access to books, digital resources, and information that empower individuals to grow intellectually and socially. Beyond lending books, libraries offer safe spaces for study, creativity, and connection—bridging gaps in education and technology for people of all ages and backgrounds. Let's keep columbia county libraries in the Georgia public library service!

A public resource like Libraries should represent and be accessible by the entirety of the community. Removing CCO from the PINES system is going to put an undue burden on the community that relies upon it. This will keep the community from being able to easily access the information, books and services they rely upon without having to travel to libraries outside of their community while simultaneously increasing their cost burden.

Our library has always been our favorite thing about Columbia County. Friends & family from other states marvel at our system and all it offers. Withdrawing from PINES would cripple the library, or at least shrink readership. “Whoever would overthrow the liberty of a nation must begin by subduing the freeness of speech.” - Benjamin Franklin, founder of the first public library, was an advocate for diversity in literature available to the masses, for free thinking, and open dialogue. Shrinking our libraries is the first step to a downward spiral.

PINES and GPLS access are critical functions of the Columbia County libraries and I cannot believe that the county commission plans to throw this all away in order to ban books. Why are you so afraid of ideas and lives that are different from yours?
