I do after school activities at Robinson on every late bus day: Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Why are they taking away the fun? Without middle school after school activities there wouldn't be cross country meets, Battle of the Books competitions, or places for board game enjoyers to play against one another. Think about the Seussical! It wouldn't have been possible without middle school after school activities. This change is completely irrational and would cause more trouble than it would solve. You may feel as if you alone won't make a difference. But if we all work together, we will make our voices heard. So sign this petition and help this cause - the future depends on what you do today!
I am a seventh grader in Robinson Secondary School, and really enjoy having something to do after classes end. A lot of my friends do after-school clubs, and I enjoy getting to indulge in these activities with them. Some clubs are educational, and enjoyable as well! I don't see why only high school students should have the pleasure/experience of these clubs. Many teachers also enjoy hosting these clubs, and I feel that it would be unjust to take them away from us. I am not speaking for the entirety of Middle schoolers, but I know for a fact that many students use after-school clubs to build their social relationships. Please don't take away the experience of having students and teachers come together after school to learn and do things that make them pleased. Thank you for taking the time to read this! (I know that I have way too much to say, but thank you for truly taking this into consideration.)
These clubs are how I make friends, find new interests, and engage within school better. Some of these clubs are here to genuinely help us with homework and assignments. I understand if funding's getting cut because of uhm...events, but if they're trying to cut these for other reasons then I cannot stand by it.
The impact of this affects hundreds of thousands of students and families. It’s important to build a strong foundation for students to fall back on as they face challenges and move forward in life. Without accountability, it sends the wrong message that ethics and living a life of integrity aren’t important. This will be remembered for decades.
I graduated from Fairfax High School in 1978. I played sports when I was at FHS. It is critical that FCPS allows for an independent investigation and holds people accountable, including firing people who were not honest and didn’t follow the rules.
If you continue to allow this behavior there will not be any fairness in any FCPS sport.
Everyone knows that families do not pick up and incur the cost of moving to play under the same coach for a couple of years. And if a family does follow a coach, their children should not be alloed to play the same sport the coach coaches for 1-2 seasons. Parents would think twice before transferring if their kids were ineligible for 1-2 years.
You don’t allow kids to go to different schools to improve their academic chances, why would you let them do it for athletics?
If you don’t control this now, you will never get control of it.
Recruiting in FCPS high schools has never been allowed or tolerated.
Does the school board or superintendent really think 14 of the coaches kids transfer by coincidence? NOT. We know it’s not a coincidence so you can stop trying to cover it up.
You don’t allow kids to lie, why is it okay for the adults involved to lie. You make kids follow the rules, why don’t the adults have to follow the rules.
Do the right thing.
